what is the right period of appraisal. if in any company appraisal has not been carried out in that specified period then what is the criteria of increment? Would the employees get the arrears of those months?

Hi Shabana,
It depends on company policy.. that how much time frame they have kept for appraisal.. generally it is been done on yearly basis.. but in some of the copanies like IT sector n other small industries it takes place even after confirmation i.e after 6 months only..
Generally performance appraisal is been done of only confirmed employees.
And a certain month is been fixed in the year to process the same..
And yes arrear is been paid, because it takes time to complete the process.

Quarterly perofrmance evaluation is the ideal period according to me.
Some points for the support of my answer.
1. If any employee performs very well at the time of increment disbursal should he be given good increment? No.
2. If any employee's performance is not upto the mark for some limited period should his increment be influenced by that for whole year? No.
and second if the employee's performance evaluation is not conducted even though he must be given salary rise accoring to dearness prevailing. his salary should be revised restrospectively.

Dear Shabana The apprisal is also done in the company in yearly basis but some company fill the appriasal in quaterly also. after conformation of the employee it is valid :roll:

In most of the MNC's appraisals are done on half yearly or yearly basis. In my co. it is being done on yearly basis.
In yearly appraisal the performance of an employee is evaluated and these are done by the year end but in comformation appraisal, though the performance is evaluated but it is just a formality which is done at the time of confirmation. eg if some one joins in the month of march, his first appraisal will be done after when his probation is over, that is confirmation appraisal say after six month, in the month of August and then his appraisal will again be done in the month of December (Yearly appraisal) with rest of the employees.
And regarding arrers, if the finilisation of salary according to appraisal is done in the month of february then you will get the arrears of January added in the month of february itself.
