Dear Seniors,
I need your help in giving me some useful inputs regarding a short seminar i have been asked to conduct for Physicians and general Doctors in a Doctor's association. I usually conduct a training of 2hr on Problem Solving & Decision making at free of cost for corporate employees at times and i have proposed the same to this association also.
But to their concern they wont be able to give more than 20 mins duration in which i have to put my best foot forward. The matter should be completely precise and short. More over i have been given the last slot after 4pm hence it would be a challenge in itself as the Docs would already be exhausted.
Kindly advice as to what would be the best topic which can be conducted in this short span of time to create a huge impact and keep them intact.

Hi Rakhi,

Something for doctors and something to make a huge impact on?

I'd suggest Emotional Intelligence. It would serve the occasion and hold doctor's attention to.

I say that outright as for doctor's one of the key things is the relationship they form with their patients'

often referred to as the 'Doctor - Patient" Relationship.

That is the area you have to talk about when you are talking about Emotional intelligence.

Emotional Intelligence is a skill that every doctor comes to value.

Infact what really sets apart one good doctor from another is their ability to quickly develop

rapport with their patients, develop trust by asking the right questions so that the patient opens up,

which in turn helps diagnose the problem correctly. Imagine children, senior members, adults, teens.

Doctors get all kinds of 'em all the time.

Since you have only 20 mins you can go in with a "sales like pitch" and a "demo".

Sales Pitch - begin with challenge and throw in a what's in it for me.

Point to common problems in their profession or ask a rhetorical question

on what sets apart one good doctor from another and then set out to answer.

You can say , " That is not an easy one. but you will all agree when I say...."

Here just talk about the relationship I have mentioned above with thrust on rapport building

and it usefulness in diagnosing. Throw in some sample everyday life humorous situations

that one encounters in doctor's clinic. (since you got only 15 minutes now)

All in all point to how having a certain skill can change it for them.

Then introduce Emotional Intelligence.

Run through it. Leave them curious. Even that is impactful.

They will call you back no matter how important everything else could be.

Focus on the necessary parts only. Just have fully picturized slides

with no bullet point on them but just bold facing fonts like a movie banner

or an advertisement. 10 Slides are more than enough.

Let me know if you want Emotional Intelligence made easy material.

I have it up my sleeve.

Good luck

Hi Rakhi,
Keeping in mind your scenario, I would like to suggest to do a learning game and a simple debrief for ten minutes. This way you will get the attention of the audience and break the monotony of a lecture based session too.
What would the approximate strength of the audience? Let me know, in case you want me to suggest some learning games and the topic you would like to focus upon.

I would suggest to talk on the topic like "Quick decision making based on the situation etc." As I believe for doctors, quick and the right decision making is so important for them to save one's life and also you can explain it in short span of time.

Hi Rakhi, I will go with Atul. It is the best idea to go for a small game followed by debriefing of it.

1st of all i would like to thank you all to come forward and help me.
Mr. Atul and Andy, yes i would really want the ppt of Emotional intelligence and the learning games suitable for the Doctor's seminar. It would help me in deciding more clearly what best i would be able to give as per my own strength.
The session would attract min 400+ doctors as per their information. Hence i hope you all can understand that the seminar is an all round challenge in itself.
Pls reply as early as possible.
thanx again....

Hi Radha, can you describe a little more about "Mind over matter". thanx

Hi Rakhi,

If it's a seminar then the setting is professional. With 400plus audience the regular training games

would be difficult to manage unless you have co-trainers or someone assisting you.

Then again you have only 20 mins.

So I'd recommend going in with only one thing in mind - that is creating an Impact.

It would require something that is relevant to their job - involves a challenge

and something that has a promise of making it easier/curious after listening to you.

Since your specialty as a behavioral (just assuming) trainer is Skills you can easily address the

skill gap often found in Doctor-Patient Relationship. Trust me, doctors want to know about

it but they just don't get the time to train for it. You have a chance to change that.

I had sent you this link earlier not sure if you saw your Inbox.

PPT Slides Emotional Intelligence - PPT Slide Stream

You may not want all the slides for this seminar so I'd suggest use it for self-study. Build your knowledge.

Prepare just 10 slides of your own with full screen Pictures and text with headlines.

(see the ppt's they do on slideshare)

Start with addressing how useful a community of professionals doctors are.

And how difficult each case is. Then focus on what makes it difficult,

then use the words "doctor-patient relationship" and you will have their attention.

Now start making an impact.

Just remember use this as an Intro session to Emotional Intelligence.

Leave it open for them to want to know more that you ultimately get

called for a 2-day workshop or so. That's the whole point.

Good Luck.
