Hi Friends,
Dis is a very interesting topic,, and beware u as HR reading this in your office during office time... ....
Almost everyone of us, use office stationery , phone , computer, internet for purposes other than official work. Almost everyone uses this.
Here telephone means not for imp communication to be sent to family members, telephone means people in office use telephone STD for chatting with lovers, frnds, family members... etc and unnecessarily chat for long time.... using office vehicle for personal use,, everyone does this,,,
So what have our members to comment on this,, that even though they are in HR,, they do this type of things...
First let me tell about myself...
In my office < I have a computer, printer, scanner, xerox, internet, phone all at my desk.
In my computer apart from official files u can find,, flash games, my resumes, job applications.
In my internet history you will find naukri.com , citehr.com, timesjobs.com, monster.com ....
During HSC / SSC results all office members some 5-6 people gathered at my desk and i searched the HSC results of their relatives, frnds, etc for them and gave it to them.... even my boss was present der,,, even my boss does personal work in office ,, all do ,,right from Peon till the Director...
I take xerox copies of my mark sheets, print my resumes all on my office Printer only...
I chat with my frnds on net through my office PC only...
I speak with my frnds sometimes STD calls also for calls as long as 30 - 45 minutes.... [even though i have phone facility i dont term it as misusing,, i speak very rarely and only when I am free,, so dont think that daily im chatting / misusing the office phone,, there are other members in my office who regularly chat daily]
almost all of us do this ,,,
and I dont say that
I AM HONEST AND TRUE TO MY COMPANY ,,
EVEN IF YOU SAY THAT IF I AM CORRUPT / NOT TRUE HR that is acceptable to me...
BUT BEFORE JUDGING ME<, DO JUDGE YOURSELF AND SEE WHERE U STAND,,,
.. but sometimes when I need to stay late in office / work on holidays I dont get overtime,,
so for me I am not doing anything wrong,,, or unethical.
NOW SOME PEOPLE MAY LIKE TO SAY THAT THEY DO THIS ALL AFTER OFFICE HOURS,,, BUT THE MAIN THING THEY ARE MOST DISHONEST TO THEIR COMPANY<, THINKING THAT OFFICE HOURS ITS ACCEPTABLE..
YOUR COMMENTS PLEASE,,,

Hi, The HR for HR...(it would be nice if you can reveal your idenitity)...your name..(only if you would like to)
Anyways, Every person does little bit of personal work in office....but in some organisation there are rules for everything....For instance, dialed numbers would be traced/or call would be disconnected after 2 min, only some websites could be surfed through net, notes have to be kept on prints/photocopies you take on daily basis...
thus, this practice varies from organisation to organisation.....or can say depend upon individual's value system...If watch is there, misuse of resources can be avoided...
However, everything depends upon how we as employees use resources...Nowadays everyone does overtime...time is fixed in the morning...but we dont know how much we have to stay back in the eve... and just to compensate overtime, we use office resources for personal work!....is something i dont understand..

I think during office hours there would be many occassions which I might call emergency time or crisis time. At this time it is not feasible for someone to avoid the utilisation of official resources. I would just cite the example. If one has to pass an urgent information to a family member/friend etc. but has left his mobile at home then a short message about the required information can be provided and after reaching home further explanations or ellaborations can be made. Similarly for other occassions a judicious use (not abuse) of the official resources can be made if you are sure that it is not possible at that time to go out and spend on it or you are stuck up in the office.
But it would be more better if you avoid such situations. I think for this proper planning and time management can be the necessary tools. In fact I would give an exercise to you and you can try it. You will find that surfing on Internet at home or cybercafe is more fruitful than doing the same at office. At office you land up wasting 2-3 times of your valuable time and sometimes more to get the same results. Ultimately you know that whatever you are using, you are not paying for it in monetary terms. But it steals your integrity, and most important your disposable office time. Believe me free is more expensive.
Giving an excuse that while others are doing including the top brass doesn't make it clean. This is just like all are stealing so I will also steal.
I hope I was able to put my views without being ideal.
