Dear All,
I am in search of Corporate training consultancies or Consultancies that conduct open house workshops on Policy making guidelines. This training should help in understanding various methods of creating HR policies, standard templates to be used to create policies, ways of maintaining and updating policies, tone of policy, points to be covered etc.
Can some one please let me know if there are such open house workshops in B'lore or any training firms who are good at delivering this kind of training?
Regards,
Shruthi

Dear Shruthi,

Employee policies depend on the nature of the business,, finished products, whether it operates in multiple countries etc. There is no "one-size-fits-all" solution. You need to customise the policy as per your requirement. Many times policies flow from Director's or owner's vision.

There are few policies which need to be in the framework of the labour laws of the state in which you have offices. You could have confirmed whether you fall under the purview of Factory Act or Shops and Establishment Act. Your policies on leave, working hours, payment of wages etc should fall within the framework of these laws.

In addition to this, you can prepare Standing Orders and get them certified from the Labour Commissioner of your area. These approved standing orders will help you in handling matters related to employee discipline.

Next is "Employee Handbook". If you make this, you can give information on uniform, various welfare measures, town hall meetings etc.

Since there is lot of variation, training programme like "How to Make Company Policies?" cannot be made. You can look for consultant rather than trainer. It is better to hire consultant from the city where you have office.

Ok...

Thank you so much for your suggessions sir.

We are in the process of fine tuning existing policies like leave policy, travel policy, policy for mentoring lunch etc. Our consultant helped us by clearing our doubts on leave, holidays, gratuity. As we are growing, we have now created a list of around ten different policies to be formulated (Example: Sexual Harrassment policy, exit policy, guidelines for promotion, policy for Performance Improvement Plan, referral policy). We have the data for all of these except for couple of them. However, we feel the documents that we are trying to come up with has to be more polished in terms of nomenclature, flow of information, tone of the message (ex:do we use should be or would be, shall or will, should that carry the tone of message from the second party),how do we handle content overlaps, when is the time to revisit the policy, how to name versions etc.

Sir, irrespective of the benefits that we gain by taking an external help, wouldnt there be any basic level training which would help us in putting the content that we have together in a polished way ?

As you suggested, a consultant would probably help us solve every issues at hand. But since we have the data for most of it with us, we are hoping to take a first shot at it.

Looking forward for your inputs.

Regards,

Shruthi
