I have been working in a MNC since Aug, 11. I joined company as GET and later on got confirmed after one year. According to my company’s policy, one has to serve a notice period of 90 days after giving his resignation or he is allow to buyout of max 45 days of this notice period. Business Head’s approval is needed for buyout of more than 45 days of notice period.
In November, 12 I got selected in a PSU and they instructed me to join there in 45 days. I had resigned in my company with offering buyout of 45 days, they agreed and were ready to release me in second week of January, 13. So, I asked 15 days extension in joining date in PSU.
But then PSU HR told me that if I could join there on or before 31st dec, 12 I’ll be saving one year of my career as according to their promotion policy, first promotion will be after 4 years only. It means joining in 2012 will make me applicable for promotion in Jan, 16 whereas is I join there next year I can only get promotion in 2017.
I talked back

From India, Pune
this is the rest part of my query..
I talked back to my manager in current company for reconsidering my case and release me after 30 days notice period. I am ready to pay for any inconvenience caused by me. Although, he was agreed that currently neither I am having any pending work nor my team will suffer any loss because of my earlier exit, he is not ready to release me in Dec,12. He is saying that it will involve higher authorities in taking decision and way more complex thing as he has to do formalities again.
Please guide me what I can do in these circumstances?
What consequences will I have to face if I leave the company before my notice period is over? I am ready to pay for any loss occurred because of me.

Hello Ravi,
What the PSU HR told you is absolutely right--however pl recheck if this PSU's Promotion policy takes the cut-off date as 1 Jan or 1 April of the year. Quite a few PSUs take 1 April.
Coming to your query, you mentioned that you spoke to your manager. have you spoken to your HR? Usually, most private companies [including MNCs] don't go strictly by the rules, if they can help it when the employee intends to join a PSU. Suggest go & meet your HR personally WITH all the docs related to your Offer. If needed, go higher in the hierarchy.
And pl note that 30 Dec, 2012 is a Sunday--plan to ask for the appropriate date for relieving [if you, by oversight, ask for 30 Dec, then you COULD land-up in a situation of getting relieved only on 31 Dec--won't serve your purpose].
All the Best.
Rgds,
