We are engaging with a labour contractor, so just wanted to know what all documents we have to check from the contractor, like they should have have the ESI registration, PF registration...etc.

Dear Neeraj,
please ask the prospective party to submit you the following documents :
I. Pan card
II. Trade Lisence
III. Shop & Establishment certificate
Iv. PF registration letter
V. ESIC registration Letter
V. professional Tax registration
Vi. Service Tax registration
Vii. Private Security Agency Lisc. in case you are engaging any Security Agency for watch & ward Service.
Viii. Labor Welfare registration
Ix. A cancelled cheque for validation of bank account.
Now,these are just to engage the contractor,post which you shall be needing other documents to be collected from the contractor to comply with the provisions of all applicable statutory and enactments.

Dear Neeraj,
As informed by Mr Arnab Dasgupta these documents are enough for engagement of any contractor. Labour licence under CL(RA) Act is obtained after egagement of contractor and if number of employees engaged are 20 or more, for which PE has to obtain Regn. Certificate under CL Act & issue Form-V to the contractor to obtain Licence. If contractor is engaed for construction activities, then either PE or contractor has to register under BOC Act and pay CESS.
