Philosophers worldwide have differed in their opinions and systems of ideas on various accounts, but if there is one thing that all their philosophies have converged on, it is this: our thoughts make us what we are.
We become what we think about most of the time. We get what we think most of the time.
Be careful of what you secretly wish for, hope for and passionately desire in the secret chamber of your mind, for thoughts become things. They have a way of presenting themselves as circumstances in our outer life.
Poem: Secret Thoughts

Dear Mr Sathyaish,

Very nice thought on the "thoughts" !!

Several examples come to the mind.

I have just mentioned three of them.

1.0

A famous oft quoted Sanskrit Saying observes,

'Yat Bhavam tat Bhavati.'

As you think so you become.

2.0

'Thoughts' are fore runner for everything.

Thoughts lead to Actions.

Actions when repeated become Habits.

Habits when practiced regularly, moulds a person’s Character.

Character shapes a person’s Destiny.

So every man shapes his own Destiny !!

Keep your thoughts pure, positive and good. Everything will be good.

Another saying is there ‘Good begets Good and Evil begets Evil’.

Hence the need to have ‘good thoughts’ would be stressing the obvious.

Of course it easy to say and difficult to follow.

Difficult but not impossible.

3.0

Sir Richard Hadlee the NewZealand fast Bowler,

a one time World record holder was

asked about his thoughts on the eve of every test match.

He replied that he would imagine going through the run up and bowling at the opposition batsmen to send their wickets tumbling.

He was successful most of the time.

Readers may recall umpteen examples and are invited to share their thoughts.

Sorry for the late reply. I just noticed your reply only now.

You're right. As I said, different philosophers and schools of thought, though they vary on other things, have converged on this one truism.

The lines you mention in your second are a variation of a verse from the Brihadaranyaka Upanishad. I often use it in my workshop on goal setting titled The Science of Goal Acheivement. Here's a picture of a slide that has this.

And the third example is one of a technique called Creative Visualization. Shakti Gowain wrote a very popular book on it. In fact, in all sports, this psychological technique is used to first see the outcome in the mind and then play it. Golf, carrom board, table tennis, lawn tennis and athletic sports rely heavily on creative visualization.

Brain scanning and imaging techniques have recently been used to validate the fact that during creative visualization, the same neurons fire that fire when one is actually involved in doing the task. So, when you are vividly imagining about, say, a motor activity such as playing carrom board, the same region in the frontal-lobe of your brain lights up that is responsible for finger movement.

Such is the power of thought and imagination.

Dear Sri Sathyaish,
I am very much thankful you for taking pains to explain the power of 'thoughts'.
Your reference slide used in your presentations is educative.
The concept of Creative Visualization for sports persons was a revelation to me.
The reply aroused the curiosity in me to sift through my archives and get other similar THOUGHTS.
The Great Tamil literary work Thirukkural while extolling the power of Virtue observes thus.
Mannathukann masilanadhal anaithu aran
Aagula neera pira

Virtue is present in a pure mind
It is not in others as they are all false show

Then there was another one from medieval times by Thomas Cardinal Wolsey
and I had posted that Quote today.
Hope to have more interaction on similar topics,
