I completed my MBA in HR in 2012. Currently I am working in a consultancy which is a start-up and my profile is HR Generalist. I don't have any experience. I am a complete fresher. My compensation is very less according to the standard of living.
Now, I got a job offer for Training and Development profile in a reputed Manufacturing company which is a big Brand and they are paying well.
I am confused whether I should go for it or not. In my current job, profile is very good and every day is a new learning for me but I don't know the other side except the company is a Brand and Training & Development profile.
Looking forward for your valuable response.

Hello Shweta,

I would suggest you to stick to your current job and earn some good experience; you also have accepted that there are many things to learn every day which can help you in having a good and strong base to move on. The new and good offer you can have in future too.

As you said that you don’t have experience/fresher, it is obvious to have compensation lower then the experienced people but for sure you can be appraise if you will perform. And I believe if you have good knowledge of anything and confidence which can be only earn by strong knowledge and experience, will offer you many good opportunities with higher salaries.

Second, you said that you are a HR Generalise here and getting an offer for T&D Profile, so let me give you some light on the difference between HR Generalist Profile and T&D Profile.

(Today you are a new person but after few months when you will be an experienced person, can expect good and higher compensation from your future employers)

HR Generalist profile which covered all the functions/activities of HR. This will give you a chance to work with all of them and you can learn and grab the things as much as you can (depends what and how much you wanna learn) but if you’d go with T&D, soon will found yourself limited to this profile only because T&D profile is also a part of HR Generalist profile. I would be better to stay here with your present job and keep your learning skills alive.

Best of Luck

Dear Shwetavi,

While taking any decision...Think about the below:

Pls. look out for compensation, Profile, learning, and all aspects...

Better exposure to almost all fields of HR, since its a small company.. you will be free to take your own decisions...

In new offered profile, You will be restricted to 1 profile..(That will not harm anything, coz in all big companies they have different dept. for taking care of different things... )

While looking out for job change mostly companies offer package considering the last CTC..

But if you are planning to become an HR Generalists.. then i would suggest pls. don't look for money..

I have a similar situation i jumped from consulting background to corporate... Here i am alone handling almost 300 - 400 employees.. profile is good but my biggest pain area is salary.. they offered me on my last CTC..

Decision is yours... Check out whether you are interested to work as an HR Generalist.. If yes.. then don't opt for this.. but if no..then pls. go ahead and grab the opportunity...

Wait for seniors to comment..

Hi Shwetha
As Mr Arora Suggested it is better to stay with HR Generalist. If you are satisfied with the roles & responsibilities and the work culture in existing company then you better stay there and learn things. I fees Pay should not be the priority for freshers. If you gain good exposure then sure you can demand in other organisations after getting good experience.
More over you said as it is start-up company. So there won't be any policies & procedures. You may have to develop all HR strategies.

Happy Morning..!

Thank You for your responses.

I understand both the cases very well after the above discussion. I am satisfied with my profile, roles and responsibilities, working culture and environment but at the end of the day it's a Consultancy. Consultancies are not considered as good as Companies in general perception. Won't it hamper my career growth?

Secondly as Sonali Neve said, future offerings will be made on last CTC, I am concerned with this issue as well. I understand that as a fresher I should not look for pay but in the long run it may become an issue for me in future.

I am confounded, When I correlate myself with my current job, my role is very good and I am happy but when I see myself 2 years down the line I am blank.

When I correlate myself with other offer, I have to struggle on profile initially but there are chances for better future.

Should I concentrate on my Present and continue with current job or looking for my Future perspective accept the other offer?
