Payment of maternity leave is EARNING for employee hence need to be made all applicable statutory deductions which are mandatory.
If you don't deduct PF then that wage period will be treated as Non Contributory period.
also slab wise earning you have to made PT deduction.
If total income fall under income tax slab that also need to be made.
hope this will suffice to clear your doubts.

Mr.Prashant
Sec.2(b) of the P.F Act defines basic wages as those including all emoluments which are paid to an employee on leave also and therefore the wages paid to a woman employee during her maternity leave also forms part of teh basic wages and sec. 6 of the P.F Act lays down that contribution is payable on basic wages + DA+ retaining allowance and thus contribution is payable on paymenst made during maternity leave.

I agree Mr. Ulhas Divekar’s views. In this case all the Statutory compliance applicable are mandatory and should be deducted as per the provisions.
