Dear Amit

On indian corporates number of legal acts are applicable. This applicability again depend upon the nature of industry or establishment. Since you have not mentioned the type of industry / establishment you are referring it is difficult to mention but the commonly applicable acts are as under :

1. Companies Act to govern the working of a company.

2. Prevention of Air Pollution Act. (Applicable only in the case of Factories/ Manufacturing units)

3. Prevention of Water Pollution Act. (Applicable only in the case of Factories/ Manufacturing units)

4. Shop and Commercial Establishment Act. ( Applicable If the business is being conducted/ operated from office/ commercial premises)

5. The Factories Act,1948.(Applicable only in the case of Factories/ Manufacturing units to provide regulated working conditions and safety)

6. Minimum Wages Act. 1948 ( To regularise minimum wages for specified

class of workers and industry)

7. Payment of Wages Act,1936 ( Applicable to regularise payment of wages with respect to time and also declaring permissible deductions from wages)

8. Income Tax Act.

9. Sales Tax ( State and Central) or VAT.

10.Maternity Benefit act. ( For female Employee's employed beyond a specific number)

11.Employee's provident Fund and Miscellaneous Provisions act,1952.

( A social Security act ,Applicable if employment strength is of more than 20 employees)

12.Employee's State Insurance Act,1948 (A social Security/ Medical benefit act ,Applicable if employment strength is of more than 20 employees and also the area in which business is being transacted is notified by the ESI authorities )

13.Workmen Compensation Act,1923 ( Applicable in case ESI act is not applicable.)

14.Contract Labour ( Regulation & abolition ) Act,1970 ( Act to check employment of contract labour)

15. Industrial Dispute Act,1947 ( Act to provide legal and amicable solution to resolve dispute between employer and employee , pertaining to employment terms.)

16.Industrial Employment (Standing Order) Act 1946 (Applicable to industries where employment strength is of more than 100 Nos)

17.Payment of Bonus Act,1965.( Act to provide compulsory bonus to employee's, if employment strength is of more than 20 Nos )

18.Payment of Gratuity Act,1972 ( Act to provide gratuity to employee's, applicable if employment strength is f more than 10 employees)

19.Equal Remuneration Act,1976

20.Bonded Labour (System) Abolition Act 1976

21.Child Labour (System) Abolition Act 1986.



In my knowledge the above are commonly applicable laws. Industry specific laws are also there, if you provide the information , i would love to help you in this regard.
