Hi Sarah,
By just quoting a line in the Appointment clause will not do you any help.
Attrition could be due to varied reasons as we all are aware of:
1) Employee Dissatifaction
2) Poor Package
3) Relocation
4) Career Growth and Higher studies
5) Personal Reasons
6) Bad reporting relationship
7) Non availability of work - Idle
8) Job related stress and Fatigue
9) Company fails to deliver something that was promised at t he time of appointment and so on...
You need to do an exhaustive exit analysis for each employee that is doing and find out the common reason or trends for quitting. The solution to the majority problems can reduce the Attrition rate by 50%
Adapting appropriate retention measures can further decrease the Attrition rate.

Training, Training is one of the most effective way to control attrition, improve the morale of the employees, by providing them with proper training.
Improve their satisfaction level, watch for their managers, people don't leave the organization, they leave their managers. (refer Premji's article on attrition).
porvide them the confidence they will be secured and they will only have internal transfers.

Hello Sarah:
Employees join the employer but quit their supervisors.
>Kindly help me out with this.<
I'll try.
>The attrition rate in my company is very high.<
How high is it?
How many employees?
How many employees left over the last 12 months
>How can I retain good people.<
Hire employees who have a talent for the job.
>Should I add this clause in their Appt Letter saying that they have to serve atleast 1 year with this company?<
No.
If new employees quit or get fired, the hiring system is not screening out the bad hires.
If employees leave after 12 months, supervisors may not be doing their jobs as well as they should or pay rates are too low.
