Best Practices for Accepting Resignation and Determining Effective Date - CiteHR

Dear All,

A small query is on my mind: when somebody submits his/her resignation on today's date and has not reported for duty in the past 5 days, what should be the language used in accepting the resignation? Should the resignation be accepted on today's date, or should it be accepted based on the date of his last working day?

Have read the thread today, so I don't know how relevant it will be. If an employee is resigning on paper with today's date, the resignation will be effective from today's date. The previous days will be treated as absent. It is better to take the resignation from a past date, so communicate this to the employee and write on the letterhead that we accept the resignation from today's date. Hand over one copy to the employee, get it signed, and follow the exit interview process if required.
