My dear seniors,
I have following aueries, pls solve it.
1. Is their any statutory / legal requirement to get sign of employees in salary registers, bcoz now a days salaries are done by crediting them into bank accounts, what is the logic of getting sign in salary registers, if we didn't take signs will there be any complications.
2. Recently there was labour officer's inspection, and although we were ready to show the registers, we were handed over a paper with the registers required to be taken to their office. It was also written that we donot comply of showing registers, and if we did not show it within 15 days there will be necesssary action.
My query is when an Inspector is handing us such a paper inspite we being ready to show the registers, can we object that. what are the things we should take care if there is sudden Inspections in the Company, Hope the answers to the above will help a lot many hr people.
Expecting good response
Thanks and regards.

Dear
According to the Payment of wages Act, 1936 you are advised to take written authorization for depositing the salaries of the employees in their bank account. If this procedure is adopted then there is no need of taking the signature of the employees of the wages register. For more details you can also go through section 6 of this Act.
Every Inspecting Officer have powers to call for information & production of records for inspection but if have deliberately not seen the records in your office & have asked you to produce the records in his office then you may take up the matter with the higher authority. Most the State has issued guide lines for inspections in that case they come for inspection after giving proper notice. You should always be prepared for inspection of relevant Labour law records. If you do not produce the required records then the Labour Officer may prosecute you for non production of records under the law in which you have been asked you to produce the records.
Submitted as requested.

Dear Narayanakhila,
Labour Inspector can verify the documents only after giving proper notice regarding the same. If not you may ask for the Notice first. There is no need to sign salary register if salary goes directly to the employee’s bank account – you may collect the proof of that to make him satisfy.
