Hey Ram,
It would be quicker if you could provide the following information:
1. What kind of training program is this? (meaning skillbased, knowledge enhancement, etc)
2. What are the core components that they need to learn?
3. What is the objective of the training (define purpose, and what do you want them to achieve after the training prg)
4. What is the expected skill level vis-a-vis the topic to be trained?
5. Will there be an OJT (On Job Training) post the main training?

Hi Himanshu

1. What kind of training program is this? (meaning skillbased, knowledge enhancement, etc)

Ans. Well, the training program would be initially to start with skill based (eg: Java, .Net, Oracle, SQL Server etc.). We also want to have training on Soft skills like communication skills, time mangement etc.

2. What are the core components that they need to learn?

Ans: Here if he is undergoing training in technologies like .NET or Java, they should not only learn the specific technology but also the Coding Standards, writing optimized programs, Email communication, reporting style etc. during the development of the project.

3. What is the objective of the training (define purpose, and what do you want them to achieve after the training prg)

Ans: The main objective of the training is to develop the skills of the Freshers so that they can be billable resources in short possible time.

4. What is the expected skill level vis-a-vis the topic to be trained?

Ans: If you want me to rate between 1-10, he should be rated around 5-6 after the training.

5. Will there be an OJT (On Job Training) post the main training?

Ans: Yes, to get acquainted with the industry standards and real time environment there will be on job training too for short time.

Please let me know if you need any additional information to help me better.

Regards,

Ram.

Hey Ram,

Okay i got it.

So with this you can go ahead with this kind of strategy in my opinioin:

1. Plan out a training program in layman terms and introduce them to the concept of the job and the skills that are required

2. Designs lessons content wise which progresses in the foll way

Begginners----->Basics------> Intermediate----->Advanced------->Expert

3. You can also go about designing bite sized lessons (these are lessons in which you give litte doze of lessons to your trainees in which it is taken care that they are not overdozed with lessons and activities)

4. You could also design self learning modules where you feel instruction would not be required or are at a very self explantory level. At the end of each such self learning modules should be an evaluation which will evaluate the desired learning skill

5. Evaluation can take place in various kinds for e.g.

--> Written tests

--> Demonstration

--> Train other peer/s

--> Involvement in active projects (giving them small modules)

Hope this gets you going...

For the technical skills (eg: Java, .Net, Oracle, SQL Server etc.), these are highly specialized areas and it is usual to recruit for these skills instead of training people in house. Training people in house is time consuming and requires specialist training skills as you do not just want the trainees to “know” about this stuff, you want them to be able to perform to your client’s satisfaction.

For suitable training vendors, you might want to look at http://www.businessperform.com/links...suppliers.html for a list of local and international training directories. For example, Seminar Information Service is an international database of training providers.

It is the same with the soft skills (communication skills, time management). To develop these courses in house without your own qualified instructional designers and trainers would be very time consuming and would not give you the results you need. Once again, you might want to consider getting an outside vendor.

For how to evaluate the effectiveness of training programs, you could look at our summary at http://www.businessperform.com/html/...ffectiven.html
