Memo is said to include all circulars whether issued to a particular employee alone or to a group of employees and even to all the employees of an establishment. It need not be ( I repeat, not necessarily be) a kind of instrument drawing the attention of an employee of his negativity, yet, depending upon the internal culture of the establishment, it may be construed synonymous to Charge Sheet also. In certain cases, memo will be issued as warning letter whereas charge sheet is issued if memo issued fails to bring in any progress. Usually, charge sheet is issued as an initial step of conducting disciplinary action against the employee. In some organisations, memo will be served only to employees of supervisory categories whereas charge sheet is issued to workmen. However, there is no specific ruling in support of this treatment. Show Cause notice is a notice issued calling on the employee to show cause 'why action should not be taken' against him. Here also, the nature of establishment has an important bearing on its treatment. It shall replace even a memo or charge sheet and at the same time, it may be issued as the remote chance of defending the final verdict of the enquiry. Please try the PPt in the following link and see if it of any use for you. <link outdated-removed> Regards, Madhu.T.K
