Great dilemma-tic question!
Nevertheless, I will try to solve this. Over the past few years the administration has become minimal with the advent of latest gadgets and office automation. So now you don't have much of peons, pantry/cooks, drivers(people prefer self-drive now), secretaries (a whole lot of them vanished), typists, stenos alike. So in short though the HR generalist was not affected by this trend, but the Administrator function has got the boot. Now we rarely do find an Admin Depart. Its now so-called Back Office.
And as of employee comfort services, like water, tea, canteen, cleaning; all this has been hived off as Facilities management or rather housekeeping services a la hotel.
So my suggestion is stick to HR generalist which has much wider scope of development, growth, and career enhancement; compared to all these above functions that have now either been outsourced or been abolished.
Take Care. Good Luck.

Hi Nimisha,
HR and admin role are defined by various industry in varied role, for eg. if you are in manufacturing industry, there HR and admin are been defined together, there role becomes much varied...while if you are in consultancy or in call center or telecom industry, thn the role of admin is totally back office and HR role is more strategic in nature..better if you speak of the role been defined to you, will be much bettre to understand thn...dont go with the designation go with the role defined to you and thn compare....you never knw who fools u around with the fancy word, n i'll tel u Hr are better master in this

Hi Heena

Thanks for giving me suggestion. This is an initial stage of my career in HR,so for better career growth & prospects,I need to solve my confusion.
For better understanding I am sending you my job profile :-

- Manage and create organization chart of employees. Ensure that there is a file for each employee.

- Keep track of TCR internal database of job applicants. Call applicants for interviews. Manage the interview process and issue appointment letters i.e Coordinating in REC & SELEC.

- Manage the training class both in terms of students as well as faculty i.e
Co-ordinating in T& D.

- Maintain and Create programs that will bring employees closer. Take charge of the company notice board and use that as a medium for expression.(maintaining harmony in org.)

- Take all clients on a tour of TCR facility from time to time showing the various functions and divisions of the company.

- Ensure general administration in the office is proper (time sheets, leave applications, loans, issues).

- Undertake travel reservation of employees. Keep an excel spreadsheet at all times mentioning the location where each employee who is travelling is located.

- Any other office related tasks as assigned by the General Manager.
