Hi
Need some information on Company Secretary.
1.What is CS membership and how does one become a member.
2. Can one person be a CA and CS both at the same time or he needs to give up one certification at a time.
3.In order to have a signing authority for CS , do they have to do anything specific.
Regards

To get a membership as CS, you need to qualify the exams conducted by the ICSI as per procedure available on their website.
Further, a person can get both CA & CS qualifications and be a member of both the institutes. However, he/she can work either as a CS in whole time practice of do his CA practice while still being a member of both the institutes.
In order to sign as a CS, either you start your practise or get an appointment as a CS in a Company.
Hope this would solve your queries.
Thanks & Regards,

Thanks Hiten & Avika for your help.
Avika: you clarified most of my doubts.just want to know one more thing -
CS to company is an external consultant? or is he uually on payrolls on the company itself.
Some CS mentioned that they can sign only if they are consultants to the company.
Btw- are you related to this field?

Dear Naveli,
I am a member of the ICSI i.e. a Company Secretary by profession.
A CS can be an employee of the Company and sign as its principal officer or he/she can sign as a consultant if he/she is a CS in whole time practice i.e. doing own business of offering services to various Companies.
Thanks & Regards,
Avika
