today there is a news in the news papers that the gratuity for the state govt. employees of A.P is hiked up to 8 lacks against the recommendations of the pay revision commission of 7 lacks and the demand of union leaders of Rs. 10 lacks.
whether the private employees are also eligible for this hick?

State governments and central government decide the amount of gratuity for their employees including employees of public sector undertakings. For all other employees in this country except government employees, railway employees, defence personnel, there is Payment of Gratuity Act, 1972 as amended from time to time. Latest amendment to this act was dated 25/05/2010 raising the ceiling from Rs.3.50 lakh to Rs.10 lakh.
