Dear Friends,
I have been regularly reading articles posted on this site...rather informative articles.
I need some guidance from you guys. I have been working for an IT company as part of the Administrative Unit for the last 3yrs, wherein i have handled HR related functionalities too.
I am really looking for opportunity to place myself in a HR Dept.
...any comment, anyone!!

hi zenobia_a,
first of all you need to understand what is h.r, there are there approaches to it i.e-- RECURITMENT, COMPENSATION MGT & TRAINING & DEVPT... recuritment is target driven but u get paid well, compensation mgt is vry monotonous, training &devpt oppurtunities are few...you have to choose the field which matches your admin- exp( thou H.R is a very specialised field)...last piece of advice would be "ALWAYS STICK TO YOUR CORE COMPETENCY"...Since u wrk for a software unit...60% of your wrk would be automated....in H.R most of the things are manual.... decide watz best for u... dnt jump into anything.....think on it...
what say?

Dear Vishal,
Thanks for the reply and the word of advice.
I do understand that jumping from one field to another is not a correct approach towards
building one’s career. I also understand that it wont be easy to shift with out having any on paper experience.
Vishal, though i m not a core HR person Academically, I have been handling various HR functionalities - from recruitments to organizing training and seminars. I have been assisting my HR unit on various project specific requirements(though again nothing on papers). Now I wish be a part of HR - Management.
It would be a great help if u could guide me on how to go abt it. Also if you could provide me details on RECURITMENT & COMPENSATION MGT....
Awaiting your response!!
Once again, Thanks a lot!!
Zenobia.

FIRST OF ALL SORRY FOR DELAYED REPLY
EXCUSE ME FOR THAT...
dear.... my suggestion would be if u want to move into h.r- then choose the most happening thing--recuritment...reason u get good growth and exposure...job is vry challenging bt target driven....secondly there is solid attrition in recuritment industry as demand is high...u should alwys work in a industry with high attrition rate...itz helps u 2 become strong financially and u grow at a rapid rate....wheras compensation mgt is a stable job....as nt many people leave that profile as it has deadlines bt no targets...u just hav to make salary slips... coordinate with finance dept for salaries, leaves etc...solve employee problems wth special ref to salary... if u r intertested in that u can move into PROGEON(infosys company) they are looking at people for that for international clients....even fidelety has those openings....bt ther is absolutely 0% challenge...
note: this is my personal opinion others might differ with that, try consulting others on the issue as well...
ANY CLARIFICATIONS??? I WILL TRY TO SORT THEM OUT...

Hi Zenobia
I have seen your post, and believe that you may be the best person your own Hr department can take right now...
If you have vacancy in your companies HR Department... Apply immediatly.. Type in a resume and give it to the HR head... I know it will work wonders and you will be taken as a serious candidate for the post...
In case, you feel that there is no scope in the HR department of your company... have a good working knowledge of the HR functions in the organisation [as you have been helping them, you might have idea, but just in case, buy a Gery Dessler book and have a through reading on it... try to relate everything with actual working conditions]
The apply for a junior / middle position in HR of different company and chances are you would be selected based on the experience and the knowledge you have...
Over the longer period, you can do Part Time - MBA or a Diploma course in HR...
