Hi
Ideally, it would have helped if you shared the background of the company, number of employees and some details of age profile of the employees. More importantly, you would elicit useful responses here if you shared a list of indoor games that you have already implemented at your workplace. This would give other viewers inputs to use at their work place and those sharing ideas here would not duplicate the activities already done by you.
Try sharing what you have done and I am sure you will get a lot of responses from those who have other fun activity ideas.

Hi Vinodkumar.C
Fun game is a good idea for creating a fun workplace. I think it's better to ask for ideas from your employees about what they really want. Be sure that you also take feedback from them regularly to timely adjust.
For a bit deeper approach, you can visit Having fun at work - an efficient management method
Hope this helps!

Dear Mr Vinod Kumar,
I agree with the views expressed by Mr Jacob.
You have mentioned that you have already conducted more than 50 games.
Only when you share what you have done, others will know what has not been covered.
Incidentally 50 and odd games is itself a very big number.
You deserve appreciation for that initiative.
How you assessed the group behaviour BEFORE and NOW?
Fun is OK. People enjoy and forget.
Has the cohesiveness improved?
It will be interesting if you share your experience with readers,
as it is a live case and not simply a game conducted during a training programme !!

Dear Mr Vinodkumar.C,

Thanks for sharing the details of the games and the percentage improvement on various categories. What Mr Raghunathan has written that thought had crossed my mind too. Nevertheless, now I would like to take it forward. You have given the following statistics:

1) 95 % Employees said It reduces Stress & Keeps Them Happy

2) 65 % Employees said Had Positive Impact on Work Quality & Productivity

3) 12 % Employees said Had Negative Impact on Work Quality & Productivity

4) 33 % Employees said NO Impact on Work Quality & Productivity

4) 82 % Employees said it Increases Trust & Team Communication

5) 92 % Employees said it Motivates Individuals & Teams

Motivation, happiness, trust, team communication etc are relative terms. All these have to translate into concrete measures. Therefore, we the training professionals must measure (because of these games) whether the process turnaround time was decreased or not, whether the consumption of resources was decreased or not etc.

You have written that you have conducted 50 games and you have 70 persons in your company. The duration of each game was approximately 15-20 minutes. Assuming that 50 persons participated in each game and each game was played for 15 minutes then total organisation's time spent was:

50 x 50 x 15 = 37,500 minutes

37,500 minutes = 625 hours

625 hours = 69 mandays = 2.5 month's (average) salary of the average employee

Assuming the average salary to Rs 60,000/- per month, the revenue spent on the games is Rs 150,000/-

Rather than conducting more games, it is time for you to check what is the ROI on the games or whether your organisation has recovered the amount spent or not. While doing calculation I have taken conservative estimates. While the game might have lasted for 15-20 minutes, employees might have spent 5-10 more minutes in chatting and idling around. I have not considered that time. Therefore, actual cost of conducting games may be more.

Nothing wrong to play children like games at the workplace however, we cannot lose our business acumen. Lest it would tantamount to missing wood for the trees!

Thanks,

Dear Dinesh Divekar,
I could Understand your Input on this . I would like to Point out few more things here . As we are a Finance based KPO Firm we have Huge Volume of work Between Jan to March approximately a employee Work More than 10 hrs a Day .
Lets say Avg Working hrs of an Employee - 8:30 Hrs , But these two months We worked more than 10 + hrs on an average
Even though he spared his 15 - 20 mins he contributed more than 90 mins a day As Extra Mile. So From this point of view also its Beneficial to Management at the same time employee Motivated ,No Stress & Happy . Thus its an Mutual benefit for employee & Organization . A Employee with Good Physical + Mental Fitness are efficient and that is why 65 % people said they found positive impact on Work Productivity + Quality .
Though am not good at numbers I Trust its Benefited in Cost wise as well to my company

Dear Vinod,
It appears that you have missed the point notwithstanding my detailed explanation or calculation itself. Be as it may.
Nevertheless, calculation of ROI on training is quintessence of the training function and we just cannot stop at the feedback from the participants.
Thanks,
