Having ten years of experience, you must have to become the HOD of your hospital. Before suggesting you the HR Initiatives, can you brief us what are all the problems faced by your department during this tenure ?

hi Sir,
Thanku for your reply. During my tenure, i have faced many types of problem. when i joined here there were many deficiencies in HR. Now we are facing the problem regarding the induction of employees. Because we have less staff and we dont have time for doing proper induction programme. Can you help me how we can start this type of programme. So that I can take at least one initiative for our department.

If your HOD has told you to bring 3 initiatives, you should not go to him with one initiative. It can adversely affect your promotion..
You can get lots of article/ information on employee induction in this site itself. Please search it.
For other initiatives please share the HR programs which are already implemented in your company and what can be implemented. Also list out the operational problems the your staff members and your company face due to non implementation of proper HR policy.

As rightly suggested, having a proper Induction programme could be one of the initiatives. Rather than we suggesting other initiatives, you are the better person to come out with initiatives as you worked for 10 years now.
If you are an observer and quite involved in your work, it will spark in your mind.
To name a few initiatives, you can think of -
1. Training for the hospital staff, nurses etc. balancing their busy schedule. Apart from regular topics, have topics as how to communicate with patients, their relatives. How to raise the patience level while tackling them.
2. If absenteeism of the lower staff is the problem, how you think to resolve the issue ? May be introducing few policies like 100% attendance bonus etc. Regularizing Discipline or Leave system could be another task.
Consulting few senior staff members about issues they face in HR, would give you an insight.
All the best!

In addition to induction initiative, you can also think of reward and recognition scheme for the efficient employee and also for the much stressed life of hospital staff and nurses, initiatives providing work life balance like creating FUN zone in the hospital where you can involve staff in corporate games for the staff.

Sit back, close your eyes and mentally list all those events which created issues amongst various levels of employees in the hospital. The issues they came up with, for which there was no provision in the hospital's HR policies to be solved by the management. Am sure, your ten years would have generated so many issues. Short list them and start ticking those issues which could have been converted into employee welfare measures or new policies in tune with the contemporary thoughts. It could be concessional treatment for employee's distant relatives... not family members. A family picnic for different departments in rotation so that hospital's function is not hampered. Am just giving some examples. Sit back and think over.
Best wishes
