I have three questions regarding probation confirmation?
1.Can an employer issue an appointment letter directly confirming the employee?
2.Can an employer specify different probation period for different category of employees?
3.Is it possible to have probation period for one category and no probatioon for employees who have already undergone training for one year?

Dear friend,
No Law relating to employment particularly any Labor Law, as it is, distinguishes employees as temporary or permanent unless there is some provision to that effect depending on the nature of jobs as provided for in the Standing Orders or Service Regulations or the Contract of Employment as the case be. Therefore," YES" is the answer for your first query.
Probation, in employment parlance, is the predetermined period of on-the-job continuous assessment of a newly appointed employee in terms of general and specific skills, orientation with the organizational culture, punctuality, possibility of grooming for higher responsibilities and the like. Hence it is possible to prescribe different probation periods for different categories of jobs.
In the back drop of the answer to your first query, it is possible in the discretion of the employer.
