Neuroscience in Human Resource System
Neuroscience can act as a mechanism in structuring human resource (HR) management system. It provides important insights into the range of areas of HR such as leadership, employee engagement, training and development, talent acquisition, and performance management.
Neuroscience is a study of the nervous system and the human brain specifically in areas of motivation, stress, learning, attention, memory, sleep, sensitivity, and behavior. In other words, it is a learning of how individuals really function.
The difficulty and haziness of the business environment today have raised the expected standards of employee performance. An organization always design strategy into two parts – business and people with the responsibility lies on the business leader and the HR team of the organization to drive these two successfully.
And as we all know, the experience of an employee at the workplace today plays a decisive role in defining the future development of a company. Therefore, it is very important for the Human Resource Manager of any organization, along with the line managers to bear the responsibility of employee experience in the field of performance, learning, motivation, and change.
Dopamine is a type of neurotransmitter. Your body makes it, and your nervous system uses it to send messages between nerve cells. That's why it's sometimes called a chemical messenger. Dopamine plays a role in how we feel pleasure. It's a big part of our uniquely human ability to think and plan.
It is a very important question for any organization that how to get the best of an employee in this modern era of business which is led with technology and huge competition. What practices to be adopted so team without under pressure perform well and achieve organizational goal.
The easiest way to do the same is setting smaller, sub-goals of a larger goal. In any sales and marketing system, huge targets can be broken into small targets with less pressure policy and an attractive incentive system, which motivates them. Reward and Recognition for the achievement of these incremental goals/targets result in positive reinforcement in the brain of any team and therefore a spike in the flow of Dopamine.
Communicating the feedback, regular check-ins with employees about the achievements/good performance leads to getting the work recognized, therefore, resulting to more positive feedback.
As a successful leader or business owner, It’s also important that you understand how to get the best out of other people’s brains. Prioritizing wellbeing is the first step on the road to achieving this, but it’s worrying how often senior managers ignore this, negotiating on rest, nutrition, exercise, and recovery by prioritizing work over everything else, without realizing that this comes at a huge cost to their (and their team’s) cognitive performance. Small lifestyle changes can reap big rewards in terms of our focus, and ability to use our brain to think with agility, drawing fully on its full resources at all times.
In order to make a system following process shall be implemented in the system:
1. Breaks the huge targets into small targets or individual targets.
2. Regular Coaching on how to achieve the target.
3. A proper reporting and feedback system.
4. Periodical review of performance system which could be weekly and monthly.
5. Reward and Recognition at regular intervals.
A session of team on stress and personal problems can be scheduled by a leader in order to let them feel that you are not only focusing to get the desired result but you are their well wisher and wanted to resolve their problems so, they can give their best and perform well in the system.
Your personal attention and coaching to your team members motivates them to contribute and be a star performer.
