Dear all, Is it a legal requirement under the Indian Labour Law for a company working in 'Media and Entertainment' based in Mumbai to issue a written 'appointment letter' or a 'job contract' while employing a person?
Thanks in advance.

Dear Conscious Citizen,
Is your company registered under Indian Company's Act, 1956 and if yes, then your company must have acquired labour license under the provisions of the shops and establishment act from the state of Maharashtra.
Under the provisions of Bomaby Shops and Establishment Act, it is mandatory to issue appointment letter. Terms and conditions of employment may be mentioned in the this letter but make sure that these do not contravene with the other labour laws in vogue.
Formats of the appointment letter can be downloaded from this forum. You may do so.
Thanks,

Dear Conscious Citizen:
Under the provisions of the of the mid-50s Company's Act, and thereafter under the Shops & Establishment Act - and this is world-wide - it is obligatory for the employer to issue the letter of appointment, whether it is a contractual or a regular job. The format of the document may vary as per cultural climate of a particular country, but the contents would be the same.
