Respected Seniors,
Recently an institute has approached me for doing a MBA course from them, they have certain accreditation which is mentioned below,
has been formed by a Famous NGO " NEW TOWN LOK SHIKSHA SOCIETY " Govt.Regd. No.S/1L/60985
is the first Institute in INDIA to get the ISO 9001 - 2008 certification.
American Nations Accreditation Board (ANAB ).
British standard Institute (BSI), UK
Accredited by Indian centre for distance learning.
Registered with Govt of West Bengal.
I want to know that doing a course from such certified or accredited institute will help me in my future job.
Thanks and Regards
Sumit

Hi Sumit,
Any institute or university or college in India has to be approved from UGC and DEC (IGNOU) for conducting regular or distance learning programs. The details you have mentioned doesn't show either. So I believe this institute is just a degree mill.

Interesting....

I googled for "ISO Certified Colleges India" and got 750,000 items in the list.

The first page its self has 11 colleges, quiet a few of which claim to be the first / only ISO certified college.

Also found a page that is offering ISO Certification to schools and colleges in Gujarat for about Rs. 1.5 Lakhs

So that is how much you should rely on ISO Certification.

Any college in India must be accredited to UGC and under AICTE.

Without that, no higher education is recognised under the indian laws.

However more important than anything is whether the industry is willing to accept the degree and give you jobs and at what price. you need to find that out. Check with recruiters and with companies what they think. Google will also give you lots of info on colleges and their status (but be careful and take things with a certain degree of cynicism)

I know of a college in Pune which is actually illegal (does not have AICTE certification) but instead gets the students to appear for IGNOU exams to get a recognised degree. First the industry did recruit based on the reputation of the principal, but then later they found placements a big problem.

Check all things before you make a decision

Any MBA not approved by AICTE is not worth doing. Don't go by ISO and BSI. There are few organizations which can certify ISO for money. Registered with WB Govt. doesn't make the institute a genuine. There is a difference between Registered with WB and Recognized by WB Govt.
If I were to start a tuition centre at my home, I can register under my state law. It takes less than 1 day. But getting recognition is very difficult
I won't be doing pgm from this institute

Of more concern would be finding an institution that actually makes its students do the work, and earn their degrees honestly.
So many instances here on CiteHR of students requesting ready made assignments, or asking others to do the work for them, instead of doing the research and work themselves to learn about the subjects they are supposedly studying. Hence they enter the workforce totally useless as they have no skills.
