I am a PhD Student at IISER. I am eligible under MHRD which says maternity leave as per Government of India rules. Is a PhD student eligible for maternity leave benefits? If yes, what are the regulations for the same. Thank you.

Dear NGogna,
Women employees become eligible for maternity leave under the provisions of Maternity Benefit Act, 1961 or ESI Act, 1948. Since you are a student, you are not an employee of the institute hence provisions of both the acts are not applicable to you.
Thanks,

Thank you Sir. Does that mean PhD students are not eligible for maternity leave at all. CSIR and UGC give maternity leave to PhD students. I was expecting that when MHRD says that maternity leave should be available for female candidates as per Government of India instructions, they will have some instructions similar to CSIR and UGC.
