One of my friend is looking for job change since long time. She is working as "HR Generalist" with one year of experience. Opening for HR role is very less in market for her role. Is is fine to switch job in "Talent Acquisition" role as there are huge numbers opening for this role?

If she has enough exposure in HR Generalist profile, she has to look forward to working on HR Business Partner projects like talent acquisition and management, performance management, learning and development, cross functional development programmes and organisational designing etc. While economic and job security is one of the criteria for switching to a different function, aptitude for a particular function is also key to excellence. So let her think what she has flair for and accordingly manage her switch.

It all depends on interest, capability, flair for a particular job.
Openings will always be available for a person with talent whether HR or talent acquisition person.
The person concerned should truly identify his/her capability and act accordingly.

Dear Nathrao,
She is much more interested for Generalist or HRBP role, but as she is not getting any opening since long, she is willing go in Talent acquisition, for which numerous openings are there. That is why I thought to have some healthy opinion of good advisers here on cite HR.
Kindly, suggest how to know regarding the suitable vacancy for the role of HRBP/HR Generalist as many 'Limited' companies do not post job on naukari.com or mass mailing .

Availability of job is the issue here.
In the process of talent acquisition, she may develop contacts for work related opportunities and find a job of her taste and likes.
Talent management is a subset of HR function as such.
Many vacancies do not get publicised and only contacts prove helpful to know of potential vacancies.

Dear HR colleague,
Non- availlibility of jobs in HR generalist role perhaps is not going to be long -lasting phase.. If she has talent- acquisition part currently in her profile with other areas , I would not suggest hasty switch to any other specialist role at this juncture but to wait for more opportune time.
Her aim should be to hone her skills in all the critical functions of HR so that she becomes capable professional to take higher role of responsibility when the opportunity crosses her way and hopefully soon.
Patience is the name of the game and she should continue to give her 100% to present role and wait for better tomorrow.

Dear Richa Kumari,
While accepting the version of Mr.Vinaya and other seniors here, she has to keep in mind the thing that even if there is a slump in the job market,an employee always gets the rewards for being patient and making use of the best options/opportunities available.
Generalist role in HR can be always a best call for her as she is interested in it. Talent acquisition is no doubt the present day option.
