We are in manufacturing unit (Textile) and receiving labour services and paying service tax against the same. Someone told us if we can do the same work on the piece rate basis we can save the service tax. Pls help me to understand this. Pls give your valuable suggestion.

Is it pure labour or with materials? There is a composite scheme for ST is available, if the services are with materials?

Service tax is applicable based on annual bill AMOUNT but on the notified services.A LIST for ST applicabilty has been notified, you can check and download or write to me for list for ST purposes.Manpower supply as you explained above through a contractor is normal practice and if bill amount is going to be more than Rs.ten lacs a year, your company need to give a credit @ 14% and contractor is liable to file return compliance under his Service Tax number about the same.
