It depends from Company to Company's policies for maintaining the pesonal file.
After an employee leaves the organisation, his /her [personal file should ideally be kept for a period of 1 - 2 years...
After 2 years, the personal file goes to the godown since this file can be referred for future use like re-hiring, etc..
