You should do a Practical HR Generalist course and keep attending small training for HR Domain to update yourself in HR Domain.

At all stages and not only at the initial stage, you need to have the following qualities :
1)Commitment : You need to involve in your job through your heart.
2)Efficacy : You need to do your job through your head which means you need to do right things and do things rightly by applying reason, rationale and prudence.
3)Empathy : You need to listen whole heartedly your employees to understand them and their grievances.
4) Promtness :Reply and redress promptly.queries must be replied and grievances must be redressed and time schedules must be met promptly. Some times a delay may be embarassing and make a thing go out of your control.
5)Organisation : Organise your work through proper planning and prioritisation like urgent work need to be done immediately.
6)Responsive : Be responsive to external environment but not reactive. It may be pestering queries from other employees etc.
7) Inquisitiveness : Develop appetite for learning new skills and acquiring new knowledge in your field of operation.
The above qualties will surely help you in developing yourself.To equip yourself with basic knowledge in your functional area, the best way is learning by doing. if any probem occurs, try to solve it by yourself first and of course, should need arise, take the guidance of the seniors.Read maerial on the relevant area of your function.
