Time To Be Quiet~
Popular author and speaker Ken Blanchard sometimes tells a powerful story about Red, a corporate president who, as a young man, learned an important and life-changing lesson. Red had just graduated from college and was offered an opportunity to interview for a position with a firm in New York City.
As the job involved moving his wife and small child from Texas to New York, he wanted to talk the decision over with someone before accepting it, but his father had died and Red did not feel he had anybody to turn to. On impulse, he telephoned an old friend of the family; someone his father had suggested he turn to if he ever needed good advice.
The friend said he would be happy to give Red advice about the job offer under the condition that the young man takes whatever advice he was given. "You might want to think about that for a couple of days before hearing my suggestion," he was told.
Two days later Red called the man back and said he was ready to listen to his counsel. "Go on to New York City and have the interview," the older man said. "But I want you to go up there in a very special way. I want you to go on a train and I want you to get a private compartment. Don't take anything to write with, anything to listen to or anything to read, and don't talk to anybody except to put in your order for dinner with the porter.
When you get to New York call me and I will tell you what to do next."
Red followed the advice precisely. The trip took two days. As he had brought along nothing to do and kept entirely to himself, he quickly became bored. It soon dawned on him what was happening. He was being forced into quiet time. He could do nothing but think and meditate. About three hours outside New York City he broke the rules and asked for a pencil and paper. Until the train stopped, he wrote -- the culmination of all his meditation.
Red called the family friend from the train station. "I know what you wanted," he said. "You wanted me to think. And now I know what to do. I don't need anymore help."
"I didn't think you would, Red," came the reply. "Good luck."
Sorry, I don't know if he took the job or not. But Blanchard reports that, years later, Red headed a corporation in California. And he always made it a policy to take a couple of days to be alone. He went where there was no phone, no television, no distractions and no people. He went to be alone; to meditate and to listen.
The French writer and Nobel Prize winner André Gide reminds us to "be faithful to that which exists within yourself." But how can we be faithful when we don't really know what is inside?
The answer for me is to be quiet. To still my mind...and to listen. I'll soon know what to do.

How to lower blood pressure using a natural treatment :
More often than not, stress is a contributory factor to high blood pressure. When we feel relaxed, so is everything actually in our body, including our blood vessels. As we have seen, it's the constriction and restriction of the blood vessels which causes high blood pressure so anything which causes these to dilate or relax is beneficial.
Here are some alternative ways to treat high blood pressure using Herbs, Aromatherapy and Yoga.
1. Herbs :
A) Lemon balm - (melissa officinalis) :
This is a green leafy herb, similar in appearance to mint and almost as easy to grow. The herb is so-called because it's leaves have a lemony scent. It is known for it's calming and relaxing effects, and has a strengthening effect on the muscles.
It was introduced to Britain in 4th C by the Romans and is also good for digestion, abdominal cramps, stress and nerves. The essential oil is good as an insect repellent but, as with all essential oils, should never be taken internally.
Lemon balm leaves are wonderful in salads or used as marinade for chicken and fish.
This herb should not be used by pregnant women because it relaxes the cervical muscles.
B) Stinging Nettles :
Stinging nettles have been useful in the treatment of arthritis and are full of vitamin C. They stimulate and cleanse the body and improve heart function.
Believe it or not, they actually make good tea. Pick the top fresh shoots from the plant and follow the instructions on the left to make herbal tea.
C) Hawthorne:
Hawthorne relaxes muscles, stimulates heart metabolism and strengthens heart contractions. It also causes the blood vessels to dilate and improves blood supply to the heart. Hawthorne can be found in English hedgerows and was believed to have magical properties in pagan times. It is usually the berries that are used medicinally.

Other Useful Herbs:
Fennel, black pepper, ginger, oregano, basil, tarragon and hyssop all contain compounds which can help to lower blood pressure. Fennel and ginger also make delicious herbal teas and combine well with lemon balm.

You can either burn 5-8 drops in an oil burner or make your own massage oil by diluting 5-10 drops in 10ml of almond oil.
Choose oils that have relaxing and calming properties. Try rose, ylang ylang, marjoram, lavender, cypress, chamomille, clary sage and rosewood.
3. Yoga :
Yoga can also help to reduce high blood pressure because it stretches, elongates and massages the blood vessels which improves circulation and encourages the blood vessels to remain soft. Stress can also increase blood pressure and yoga, with it's relaxing principles can help combat that. It is worth noting that yoga is also a weight bearing exercises because some of the poses require you to hold up your own body weight. Weight bearing exercise can help to prevent osteoporosis, a disease which affects one third of women and two thirds of men over the age of 50.

Some of the king's wealthiest merchants and courtiers came by and simply walked around it. Many loudly blamed the king for not keeping the roads clear, but none did anything about getting the big stone out of the way.
Then a peasant came along carrying a load of vegetables. On approaching the rock, the rural person laid down his burden and tried to move the stone to the side of the road. After much pushing and straining, he finally succeeded. As the peasant picked up his load of vegetables, he noticed a purse lying in the road where the rock had been. The purse contained many gold coins and a note from the king indicating that the gold was for the person who removed the rock from the roadway. The peasant learned what many others never understand.
Moral of the Story
Every obstacle presents an opportunity to improve one's condition.

Consultants and motivational speakers have talked about the importance of written goals at least since Benjamin Franklin. The 19th century Psychologist and philosopher, William James, talked about clear goals, and Napoleon Hill wrote about them in "Think And Grow Rich" in the 1930's. Of course you should choose clear personal goals, write them down, and stay the course!
And that's the rub. The daily grind of "staying the course."
We all have goals of some sort. Some are written, some are vague, some are almost dream-like, but we all have things we long for. The rub is in making them happen.
Almost everyone I talk with--large audiences where I'm the keynote speaker, small corporate trainings, and individual clients--they ALL talk about distractions. They ALL talk about interruptions and daily frustrations.
They ALL talk about how busy they are and how little time they have.
And yet winners find the "secret" of doing first things first.
The winners in life have exactly the same amount of time and the same resources everyone else has. They work hard (like everyone else) and yet there is a huge difference in their RESULTS. In the end, winners come out on top because they have a SYSTEM for choosing their top priorities and sticking to them.
Here are a couple of practical suggestions, starting with the most fundamental truth I know: You must decide what you want in life. Life is full of options, and each of us has the responsibility to clarify our choices and pursue our dreams. No one can do that for you. Decide what you really want in life!
Most people don't think carefully about their most important goals. They have goals that are vague or have never been discussed and coordinated with family members. Be clear. Talk it over with the people in your life and focus on what you truly want.
But then, here are my suggestions for making specific daily progress:
1. REVIEW Your Goals frequently. Brian Tracy and Napoleon Hill recommended reading them every day, and they were smart people. I do a thoughtful review of my own goals at least once a month, and briefly re-write them every morning. If you aren't making progress on your goals, the first step is to review and commit to them more often.
2. Work with a TEAM. Talk with your family. Review your priorities with your boss. Get together with a master-mind group every week. Talk about your goals with people who will support you and who have the resources to help you succeed!.
3. PLAN Your Day and do it each evening so your mind can prepare for the new day while you sleep. What has to be done tomorrow? What problems will come up and how will you deal with them? What is your one major target for tomorrow? Decide the night before.
4. Each MORNING, confirm your daily targets. I write my three most important tasks on a 3x5 card each morning. I do it with my morning coffee. I think it helps.
For most of us, the key to daily action is a SYSTEM that keeps us focused and brings us back to our most important goals. On our own we are too easily distracted. We lose focus and waste time. Instead, use a SYSTEM that gets you back on course like an auto-pilot. Then, trust the system and get to work!

We looked at the growing problem of obesity in America and at its serious consequences for your employees' health and your organization's bottom line. Today we'll focus on the related issue of heart attacks, and how you can help your employees lower their risk.
In order to reduce the risk of heart attack, you must first understand the causes and contributing factors.
The heart receives oxygen-rich blood from the lungs and sends it throughout the body. A heart attack occurs when a clot blocks an artery that carries the blood. Blockages damage the heart muscle within minutes. Within hours, the damage may be so great that it prevents the heart from functioning.
While some risk factors for heart attacks can be prevented or controlled, others cannot, including a family history of heart disease, age, or being male. According to BLR's, heart attack risk factors that can be prevented or controlled include:
-- Being Overweight, which makes your heart work too hard
-- High Cholesterol Levels and Diets High In Cholesterol and Saturated Fat, which clog and block the arteries
-- Smoking, which narrows blood vessels, increases heart rate, and doubles heart attack risk
-- Lack of Exercise, which can increase body weight and cholesterol levels
-- Stress, which can trigger health problems and weaken the heart
-- High Blood Pressure, which makes the heart work harder and weakens it
-- Diabetes, which, if uncontrolled, increases cholesterol levels
It goes without saying that if you smoke, you should stop--that is the single best way to lower your risk of a heart attack.
Another good risk-reduction step is to improve your diet. Ways you can do this include:
-- Eating Fresh Fruits and Vegetables and Whole Grain Breads, Cereals, Pasta, and Rice
-- Avoiding Saturated Fats like Butter, "Junk Food," Fried Food, Creams, and Gravies
-- Eating Steamed, Broiled, and Baked Foods and Low—or Nonfat Dairy Products
-- Restricting Salt Intake to keep Blood Pressure Down
-- Checking Packaged Food Labels for Sodium Content
-- Substituting Pepper or Other Seasonings for Sodium
-- Avoiding Alcohol to Keep Blood Pressure Down (and if you're diabetic)
If you do experience symptoms of a heart attack, you should take immediate action. Get to a hospital immediately if you experience:
-- Chest pain that lasts longer than 10 minutes. This could range from slight discomfort to pressure or tightness to crushing pain.
-- Pain that radiates to the left shoulder, arm, back, teeth, and/or jaw even if you rest, change position, or take medicine.
In addition, you should promptly tell your doctor about such other potential heart-problem symptoms as:
-- Frequent Angina — Chest Pain that goes away when you rest (It's a sign your heart needs more Oxygen.)

Everyone in the wedding ceremony was watching the radiant bride as her father escorted her down the aisle to give away to the groom. They reached the altar and the waiting groom; the bride kissed her father and placed some thing in his hand. Everyone in the room was wondering what was given to the father by the bride.
The father could feel the suspense in the air and all eyes were on him to divulge the secret and say something. So he announced "Ladies and Gentlemen today is the luckiest day of my life." Then he raised his hands with what his daughter gave him and continued, "My daughter finally, finally returned my credit card to me."
The whole audience including the priest erupted in laughter.......... all except the poor Groom!!

I read the phrase 'Accelerate your ability to learn' and fell in love with it.
Simple? Yes. How do we do it.
Let's deconstruct the phrase.
The main aim is to Learn.
How you learn & what you do to learn is the Ability
But the essential idea that captured my imagination was 'Accelerate'
so not only are you supposed to learn, but improve and increase your ability to learn!
think of it as computing power. Not only are the processors becoming faster, the rate at which they are becoming faster is growing too!
So I went digging.
This post aims to look/search for some more information on the tools/thoughts/links that you could use to 'Accelerate your ability to learn'
1. Music
I use music all the time.
To write I have some specific numbers, to work thru mundane emails another set and some good ole favs for when I feel down and out.
Here is a piece of music I particularly like.
2. Getting Ready To Learn
This is such a revelation!
anyone who has ever worked out, will tell you the importance of warming up. you could seriously injure yourself if you don't and yet when it comes to the mind we don't really stretch , do we?
I suggest you develop a quick routine to Get Ready to Learn.
This could include music, looking at a photograph/art/point on a wall, chanting, breathing exercises or even self affirmations.
3. Managing Fear
this is such a big drag.
My suggestion is to admit it.
Admit that you are scared of the new thing/trick/skill/knowledge and that you need to learn it bad otherwise bad things will happen to you.
Fear is scared of being called fear.
the other thing fear is scared of? ACTION!
Start now. wanted to learn how to drive a car? ensure you are on the wheel of one today.
4 suggestopedia
Suggestopedia is a theory in which positive suggestion is applied in teaching.
But there is something there that I want to focus your attention on.
The students must value the professional skill of the teacher.
Now, since we are talking about learning by yourself here, you must trust the source of your learning.
I do not take all information from the net seriously. I have a select set of authors who I respect and listen to. Not everyone is allowed to offer me suggestions or try and mentor me.
5. Mind Maps
I love these things.
The mind map is such an awesome tool, I keep wondering by people don't use it.
It is simple, intuitive and versatile.
Essentially a mind map is a hard copy of how your mind works.
when I say the word 'blue', some of you might think of the colour, some the mood, some the music and others clothes etc. To capture this non-linear approach that our brain uses, mind map was created.

6. Create What's In It For Me (W.I.I.F.M)
Whenever you sit down to learn anything, create this first.
Your mind will now ensure that while you are reading, listening, watching, your mind will consciously & unconsciously looks for WITFM.
This is like an objective or intended goal.

Students learned in a fraction of the normal time.here is an example to get you started
In a single day, one half of the normal vocabulary and phrases for the term (up to 1000 words or phrases) were learned. In addition, an added benefit was that the students had an average of 92% retention of what they had learned!
