Hello, Please help me to figure out a solution:
An employee went on maternity leave for 6 months, now has requested to extend the leave for 3 more months which will be unpaid. Now in that case whether she will be eligible for corporate medical insurance policy coverage?? Does it mandatory for the employer to continue paying her medical policy though she is not working. Please share your inputs to guide and help.

Any authorized leave even on LOP does not snap the tie of employer-employee relationship. Moreover, the period of coverage of the insurance would be for the duration of a year and the premium payment might also be once in a year. In my opinion, she is eligible for the benefit of medical insurance fully sponsored by the employer despite her leave on LOP.

The corporate medical policy gets applicable from the 1st day of joining and is continued till the exit of the employee from the organization. Her leaves and insurance coverage does not have any co-relation.

An employee on roll shall eligible for everything for which all other employees of the same category are eligible. The Leave Without Pay does not absolve the rights of benefit, if otherwise not having any such signed understanding with employee or any policy.
