Hi All,
I am currently working for an IT company in Bangalore. I have been working here for one and a half years. This organization is four years old and has 62 employees, of which 10 are female employees. Employees of this company are covered under medical insurance, but maternity is not included in that coverage.
I would like to know if there are any provisions under which medical insurance can cover my maternity. Any other ideas would also be appreciated.
Thanks,
Shaista

1. Sir, please indicate whether your establishment is covered under the ESI Act, 1948 and if so, whether the said 10 female employees are covered under this Act.
2. If female employees are not covered under the ESI Act, 1948, then such employees will be covered and entitled to maternity benefits under the Maternity Benefit Act, 1961 if the eligibility conditions under this Act are satisfied by the employees claiming such benefits.
3. The issue raised by you regarding "whether there are any provisions under which medical insurance covers my maternity" can be ascertained from insurance companies that provide such commercial insurance.

Hello Sir,
Thank you for your reply.
1. My company is not covered under the ESI Act, 1948.
2. My company is okay to give 12 weeks of paid leave. So, what else is covered under the Maternity Benefit Act, 1961? Kindly let me know.
3. My main concern is that our medical insurance policy doesn't cover maternity. I am the only married female employee in the company. Most of the employees here are young.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thanks,
Shaista
