Dear Seniors,
We are having small establishment not covered under EPF/ESIC act.
One of our female staff member is recently got married.
Is it now necessary legally to introduce changes in office records for her new surname after marriage.
Changes in records like attendance register/salary sheet / salary slip/bio attendance punching machine/confirmation letter etc now onwards.
Requesting for valuable inputs.
Thanks

It is a general practice to make the changes after getting a copy of the marriage certificate for your reference.
If the employee does not want you to change the records, she must given a letter to you specifying the same.
I do not think there is any specific legislation in this regard

Ans: Not necessary to make changes in office records towards her surname considering her marital status. Always follow the name mentioned in her academic certificate.
-However it a protocol to be followed by the Co., to update her marital status, to maintain evidence of
employee's marital status for concern of employee's nominee as dependant, claimant, etc.,
-To understand whether the employee's spouce belong to same co., or group co., since it might cause
inflated appraisal.
-If competitor co., the employee might steal the formula & may seel it to the spouce co.,
