Can a Company enrol for gratuity without enrolling into PF. Any official documentation or weblink for the source of information?

Kavi,

Gratuity and PF are not related to each other...

PF is a statutory contribution for employees and employer covered under the Act.

An employer is covered under the act when he has 20+ employees on his payroll and then continues to be covered under the act even if at a particular time the employment strength falls below 20.

An employee is covered under the act if his starting basic salary was less than or equal to 6500.

He continues to be covered under the act even if his basic increases above 6500 or even if he changes job (and new employer is covered under PF act)

However Gratuity is a kind of special bonus that is given to employees as a reward for their long term service. A bear min of 5 years of service is to be rendered in order to be eligible to claim gratuity.

Gratuity can be claimed only once - either on retirement, resignation/termination, death.

Only in cases of death and resignation / termination due to partial / full disability so that the person is incapable of performing the task, the gratuity is paid to the employee or his nominee / legal heirs (as case may be) and an exception of minimum period of 5 years is discarded in these cases.
