Hi Hem Joshi

Even we have implemented Apprenticeship very recently but dont have the policy. We are following as per the Act only

If need policy you can consider the following points

Applicability
Positions / Trade
Qualification for each trade
Stipend for each trade
Mode of training
Duration of training for each trade
Consideration of employment post training

You do not need an apprentice policy if you are taking apprentices under the apprentice act.
You need to get in touch with the Apprentice Advisor of your area and he will tell you how many apprentices you can / need to employ. He can help you appoint them or you can hire on your own.

If you are not intending to follow that route, then you need to have Apprentices defined in your Standing Orders and follow the terms and rules specified in it. In such cases, making a proper policy may be a good idea as a guide to the operations and HR teams on how to deal with them

Dear Hem Joshi,
Pl.refer in details the Apprentices Act, 1961 and other amendments & rules made thereunder.
Though the term 'Apprenticeship' commonly applied to technical training Apprentices, but also can be in other fields including finance, services and other utilities. Generally the apprenticeship training is for one year full time. And an establishment can engage Apprentices in proportion to the overall strength of the establishment (2.5 % to 25%). And reservations for SC/ST, BC/OBCs would apply. A minor of 14 yrs also can be engaged with an agreement executed by their guardians. The cost of training, stipend at prescribed rates etc shall be borne by the employer. There are few others points to be taken care of before deciding on your plans:
Obligations of employers.—Without prejudice to the other provisions of this Act, every employer shall have the following obligations in relation to an apprentice, namely:—
(a) to provide the apprentice with the training in his trade in accordance with the provisions of this Act, and the rules made thereunder;
(b) if the employer is not himself qualified in the trade, to ensure that a person6[who possesses the prescribed qualifications] is placed in charge of the training of the apprentice;
8[(bb) to provide adequate instructional staff, possessing such qualifications as may be prescribed, for imparting practical and theoretical training and facilities for trade test of apprentices; and]
(c) to carry out his obligations under the contract of apprenticeship.
