Hi Janani,

Job evaluation is very important to select the right person for the right job, monitoring the required output with time frame and to ensure the expected output. Most of the companies hardly chalk out the job description and the confusion starts even at this stage. Precise job description also prevents a person from stepping out of his/her purview thus avoiding power politics.

I am attaching a JOB CONTENT QUESTIONNAIRE PREPARED FOR Valdosta State University, which I feel is a good one for this purpose. This will be useful for you also.

Functional structure is highly effective as the organizational hierarchy is fixed based on the functions performed by the people and structure is not based on the posts they occupy. In many industries where functional structure is absent, we can find problems between technical and nontechnical top executives on trivial issues hampering the progress of the organization. In functional structure, importance is given to the person who performs important and pivotal jobs and the echelon is structured accordingly. Therefore, the rudimentary principle in functional structure is to arrange the Organization Chart (OC) according to the functional importance.

All the best to you,
