I am an HR Manager and was directly reporting to CEO for more than 8 years. In my last company , i have been serving them more than 3 years and was directly reporting to CTO.
after some time some new hr joined in US with no proper hr qualification , just from sales background and she was pressurizing me to report to her. I did that and my management was diplomatically watching that. then she sleft due to non performance and again , i started reporting to my CTO.
Again after a year , new hr has joined with accounts background and liitle HR knowledge and she wants me to report to her. I am really frustated now.,
I have a total of 14 years exp in HR with proper edu qualification and Experience in industry. I just don't want to report to a counterpart in USA.
Pls advise.. I am i correct ? Pls advice seniors ..
I joined with this from the beginning and i have set a very strong path in chennai operations after so many negative happenings , i have come across so many phases from day 1 till date and suddently asking me to report to new joined hr in US is really frustating . I feel very demotivated. can i leave my job and look for new one, pls advise. I have been in IT Companies for last 14 years.
Looking for your early response as i need a guidance from you all !

Well, one thing you can be certain of - this is common in all Industries. HR is still a Support and NON-Revenue generating function as far as the Indian based management is concerned. US Counterpart is just trying to take control. If your Management is watching diplomatically, then I guess you should be Diplomatic as well. Your experience should count here in walking their walk, however ensuring its your path.

I would suggest that we should look at the situation more largely. If the HR head is from Finance background, it may be a good opportunity to learn the HR from financial (analytics) perspective. If from sales, it could give new ideas to look at how to anticipate and resolve the needs of internal customers. These two aspects are the game changers for HR in this decade, infact HR business partnering revolves around these pillars.
Being from HR background one could have an edge by surprising the manager with one’s knowledge and help the manager resolve complex issues proficiently.
As far as reporting is concerned, you may propose to have a dual reporting in US and India. Since manager and reporte are separated geographically and in time zones, it will also make sense. This way you will continue to maintain your local relationships.
Changing job may not be a solution since one doesnot know about the challenges in the new organization, which could be far more that your current company. It could be a different type of challenge that you may face, stability of company, culture in company, behavior of colleagues, etc

I also suggest the same thing and act diplomatically. In India HR people are treated as non-revenue generated people and burden on company. But fact is that without HR or support people company cannot work.
If you join new company you may face some more problem than this. So its up to you to decide.
My suggestion is to continue till the time you are get the new opportunity.

Even in many public sector industries, hr department is often headed by technical persons.
This has its own advantages and disadvantages for hr persons. This is not to belittle the role of hr persons who are the frame work on which an organisation functions.
having said that it is your call to decide on staying around or quitting. but be aware you would be in a wesker position to negotiate after giving up your job.
