Dear Friends, Can you please suggest me the ways to build resume database apart from purchased web portals like (naukri, monster, timesjobs etc.) especially for faculties. Thanks, Kahkasha

hi hr,
you didn't specify the industry you were in or catering to.
from my experience as an admin, we segregated the resumes on the basis of their qualification and experience. while the guy would post his resume based on his education, we would de classify it into experience based - which I am sure you are doing.
maybe you can have a file (soft or hard copy) of the different faculties and post the resumes into the categories they fall into. sometimes one resume can go into 2-3 posts. keep the contacts green by acknowledging the receipts of their mail/hard copies.
send them an acknowledgement like "we are in receipt of your cv/bio/resume. we are processing it and will revert to you when vacancies rise".
lots of companies don't follow the basic courtesy of acknowledging - similar to our forgetting thanking someone when they have helped us.

Thanks for the inputs Ramesh.
I belong to education sector and it's a society where we set up different schools and colleges and every now and then we are need of good Principals, teachers, PGT, TGT, lecturers. Readers, Professors etc.
Please let me know if you can tell me about other subscriptions (free/ purchased) from where I can get good resumes.
Thanks,
Kahkasha

hi Kahkasha,
look at the B.Ed. course where candidates have recently passed out. hopefully, you should be having list of college/ institutions who do this. also look at Government employment registers. look at college placement cells. quite a few people work as instructors in private teaching institutions. try to bring them on board
tap into teachers and lecturers you have recruited. they will have friends and contacts who are eligible for teaching and can bring in good people. also women who have taken a break from teaching after marrying or after having kids. get the database, certainly should help for starters. also look to attend educational or job fairs - put in a stall and get guys or have pamphlets distributed in these stalls.
one of my school mates - not fit for teaching, but did not get the expected corporate job, went into teaching. there are students/ unemployed who if given right direction can deliver for you. senior people in the corporate world who have resigned voluntarily, have a fund of practical knowledge and contacts as well. surely can help.
about purchasing I am not in favour because most of the resumes are fudged and made to look huge whereas in reality the guy would not fit into the scheme of things.

Hello all,
Greetings.
I am working in a recruitment consultancy, and handling a particular branch office. I have joined this company about two weeks back. I have completed my Studies this year only, and a fresher in this industry.
We come across a number of resumes every day, through walkins, soft copies, posts, etc.
Till now, i have found that the resume database had been maintained traditionally, sorting out the hard copies of resumes in different files (according to the stream in which the applicant wishes to go and his experiece like marketing, sales, back office, hr , bpo, etc.)
But now, i want to maintain the database in soft, by creating some format in excel (or if there is any other way, please let me know).
ofcourse doing entry of each and every resume could be very time taking, but i feel it might be very convinient to sort out candidates later from a database in ms excel, in accordance to my preferences like years of experience, qualification, etc.
So please let me know, how should i create the database, what format should i follow etc., so that it could be more effective, fast and helpful for me and people accessing it after me.
Thanks and Regards,

resume data bank is some thing what u have to keep once u r into hr.It really helps . But u have to keep in touch with the people whom u validated on regular basis. In order to have 10 valid profiles u have to source 100 cvs from a job portal in fact.So dont keep this as the only work u have.daily spend 30 mins to validate ad accumulate. Now over a period of time for 3 months u will have ur valid cvs collection. Now ur question will come into mind. what after 3 months? again start the same cycle.

Dear Mayank,
You can create a master excel sheet where you can mention
Name
Designation
Present organization
Experience (in years)
location
present salary
expected salary
Notice period required
date (mentioning when the data is updated?)
Ramarks
In this way you can add more columns. As per designation you can rename the sheets in master excel sheet.
At the same time you can e-mail all the candidates you send their resumes in your particular format which will reduce your time and will get the interested candidates turned up.
with best wishes,
Kahkasha
