Dear June V.
Firstly, in your post you have not mentioned the position for which you have prepared an Appointment Letter. If it is a senior post like president to DGM, then check your company policy, because in most of the companies, there is no probation period for senior positions.
There is very less chance for any position to have only one month Probation period. Please check policies for that also.

Hi,
I have faced same problem with my organisation.
It's pvt ltd. firm, with ISO 9000 , our company policy is we keep employees on wage receipt for 3 months, then after completion we upgrade them to on muster roll. it is considered as date of joining, from the date of joining it takes 1 year for probation. after completing that one year he will be permanant employee and eligible for Leave and bonus, Lta facility.
Is it fare ?
As we are now revising our policies can we amend this policies with help of current act.
Plz help.

Dear Friends,"PROBATION" generally for the senior management level it is 6 months, Middle Management to below is 1 year. But it is purely on Management policy. Before completion of probation period we have to review the performance of the candidate. Here I attached one format may be useful, also attached a detailed notes on 'PROBATIONER'. Regards,PBS KUMAR

Hi,
I agree with PBS Kumar. Normally the probation period will be for 6 months. Why we keep the probation period the reason is that,
1) We can measure the performance of the new joined employee.
2) There is lot many things we can know during this period such as Attitude, Loyalty, which are behavioral aspect of the person.
But again its totally depends on the management policy.
Thanks,
Amit

Hi
It purely depends upon company to company and 1 month probation period is very less. Atleast the company should have minimum 3 months probation period. Even the HR policy changes once you complete the probation. The employee will get more benefits after completing the probation period. So 3 months is the minimum period and max is 6 months and this can be extended if the employees performance is not as per the expectations of the company.

Dear Everybody,
well Probation purely depends on Company Policy.(3 months to 6months is general practice) In Government departments it is generally for 2 years. And then they (Authority) check your ACR (Annual Confidential Report) of first 2 yers anf if everything is okay ,the temporary employee become becomes a permannet one.
I will say the reasons mentioned in the last posts for Probation are more or less same but would like to add one point here that In Manufacturing Plants specially (Where ever labour Laws applicable) , probation period is more than in comparison Service sector employees or Higher management. And here the benifits and separation is also entirely different for temporary and permanenet employee.
In service sector I feel everybody remains in probation untill the employement.
