Hi All,
I Have a doubt regarding Notice period.
If an employees falls sick during notice period and doesn't come to office for 30 days, does his notice period gets extended accordingly?
Or else what can be done to handle this situation?

Hi
As a responsible employee one has to see that they pass on the knowledge to the employee taking over the charge. The very purpose of serving the notice period is to see that there is smooth transition of work without any issues to the employer and the one who will be taking that position. So it is imperative that if you had not done that part you may be asked to extend the period and do the necessary. It may or may not be the exact number of days that should be taken into account but the manner in which you go about transferring the knowledge and relieve yourself off the responsibilities and seeing to it that the person who has taken over is comfortable with the work as much as possible.
Take it in a positive manner and see that your relieving and recommendation letters are received without any hitch and so also your full and final settlement of dues. As a responsible employee one should not crib about routine works and bring in negative energy within one self.
Thanks and Regards

Apart from what is written by learned Aks 17,I would add the employee needs to produce conclusive medical proof of illness.
Employee has a duty to hand over his job/equipment etc to company and pass on his knowledge regarding the work to incumbent or other person decided upon by company.
He needs to complete his responsibility fully.
Willingly do few days of work and do knowledge transfer to the satisfaction of employer.

Why not? when company terminates someone without any notice, we take shelter of law. But when employee secured better employment elsewhere, no law, ethics, moral and or responsibilities are binding on him/her.
To avail 30 days sick leave one has to be hospitalised. He can't just stay at home and get cured miraculously immediately after the expiry of notice period to join the new organisation.
You put yourself in the position with whom you are dealing then only you will realise what hardship/difficulties the other person has to face.

Hi Nagarajan Sekar,
Leave during notice period depends on your company's policy. If there is a genuine health problem, you can submit the necessary reports and avail leave. The company can relieve you by not paying the salary for that month or extend your notice period if no other employee is available to take up your work
