Dear All,
I want to work in a reputed company as HR Manager but I lack experience in following things:
1. No practical experience in SAP or any payroll related software.
2. Some companies insist that person should be well versed with MS Excel but I know only basics and I am not that expert in Excel.
3. Hands on experience in Statutory Compliance. During MBA I had studied it but later I lost touch because I never got the opportunity to handle statutory compliance. I get lot of mails from companies stating that they require HR Officer for Manufacturing Company and such companies require someone who has experience in statutory compliance. Now if I have never handled it how will I get experience.
4. Other HR Related Activities like Employee Insurance, Employee Engagement Activities, Industrial Relations etc.
5. No experience of handling more than 100 or 200 or 300 employees.
I believe that If I get this experience I will gain confidence and over a period of time I can become a HR Manager. But I don't know how to start and how to gain that experience?
Should I join institutes offering practical course in HR. Is it really needed and will it be helpful or just waste of money?
I also feel like joining reputed company in Mumbai. I have done my MBA in HR but not from a reputed institute and the degree is affiliated to Tilak Maharashtra University, Pune and it is a full time degree. Many companies in Mumbai are not aware about the institute and in every interview they ask me the same question" MBA is it full time or part time?"
Only top B-School Graduates have edge over me because recruiters prefer them and people like me have to suffer working in a low level company where we don't get enough hr experience.
I need your advice. Please give me your valuable suggestions.

Opps long list of you wishful thoughts. My Sincere suggestion, please don't mind....Start as Excutive in HR and work up the ladder.
Yes, if you are fresher or with 1/2 yrs experience, writing a good CV will help.

Congrats you have an in-depth understanding of where you are and what you lack. You have even charted a way for yourself. All you will do now, is to see yourself, reach there.
I am sure, you formed your idea , from the numerous interviews you attended. You have n't shared what have you been doing so far , professionally. So, how about turning the tables? There are innumerable people who might be making a career , right with what you have. What got them to their jobs?
A certification is a brilliant idea . But choose it wisely. Large Indian firms value brand , just as you have already noticed. A certification by courses from the top college might take time , but an investment for life.
The second way to build your knowledge, is to target every area you wish to learn and start picking every information about it , you find. Frame your wisdom from the discussion you have with the experts. This will get you functionally sound in that area.
I second U.K.Mitra and White Eagle, you can look for the entry level roles, as it will be easier to find , hence keep your stakes low.

As you said gaining knowledge from different sources, am sharing my experience, before joining CiteHR six months back I have a very little knowledge about PF & ESI related stuffs but till date I have gained a lot. My colleagues are now coming for seeking advice on those. All these informations & knowledge on PF & ESI I gained by my quest on CiteHR. Am not telling that am now an expert, but have enough knowledge to help my colleagues & also dealing with our contractors.
To Mandy: Not so capable of giving you advise, but one thing I want to share from experience as a professional that, "Getting a Chance" is for the learners from school or collage, but in a professional life you only get "Opportunities". You have to grab the opportunities and learn like a beast.
