I am a Junior HR Executive. I have two senior HR and a Manager. We have separate job descriptions but my seniors keep passing on their works to me. They present their work done by me to the Manager as if it was done by them and get appreciation for the same. In the process, I am unable to find time to complete my work and my Manager keeps questioning me on the same.
If I was to discuss this issue with my Manager, it would create conflict within our department and my seniors will avoid me from the team . My seniors will also mark me negatively for my Performance appraisal in all likelihood. I do not want to make my seniors think bad of me.
Kindly help me with suggestions to handle this situations effectively and diplomatically.

Dear kriz,
first you must be finish your task or responsibilities which were assigned to you, then after you can co ordinate with your seniors.
if your seniors raises any problems or avoiding to you, you can directly approach with your boss.

Hi Kriz,
Your Problem is the same which I faced many a times in my Life. One day I met one good senior of mine in services,He Gave me a Mantra,
The same is here -
He Told Me - You are Likely to face a problem that people will snatch your work while in services,People will snatch your work credentials and Possibly they may go in the good books of their Boss. The remedy of this problem is only One - You Must become master of your trade and work harder and smarter.
Hope this helps.
Thanks

Hi Kriz,

This is a common problem between seniors and juniors, in all walks of life. It is known as "Delegation"

There are two ways to handle this issue.

You can see it as a problem and suffer

or

You can see it in a positive light and have some success from it.

Here are some tips to consider:

1) First of all take heart, in that the seniors have enough confidence in you to carry out some of their work.

They do this either because they are incompetent, in which case they will not last long, or because they have their own pressures and need assistance.

Therefore, the quality of your work must always be of the highest standard.

2) Keep a detailed record, of the work you carry out for them, (as well as your own)

3) Make small spelling errors, for example using the word "their" instead of "there", small errors are unlikely to be picked up. However, you must keep a record of these errors.

4) Make and keep safe photocopies of the work, if you cannot photocopy the whole document, then at least photocopy the pages where you made the deliberate errors.

5) IF you then get a negative appraisal, then you can produce your evidence !!!

In the meantime, put in the extra hours to ensure you are up to date with your own work. Consider this as an investment in your future, you are a junior and are still learning. Part of that learning is how to deal with office politics; keep it positive, use it you enhance yourself and you will be all the better for it in future.

Hope the above helps and I am certain other members will contribute.

Regards,

Harsh.

Hello Krish,

Harsh has offered a smart solution and I truly appreciate it. He has hit the nail on the head - You can see it as a problem and suffer or You can see it in a positive light and have some success from it.

Just to elaborate a bit more on what Harsh has said I would add: Worrying can be helpful when it spurs you to take action and solve a problem. But if you’re preoccupied with “what ifs” and worst-case scenarios, worry becomes a problem. Unrelenting doubts and fears can be paralyzing. Panic plays no part in weavin a career. It can sap your emotional energy, send your anxiety levels soaring, and interfere with your daily life, though chronic worrying is a mental habit that can be broken. You can train your brain to look at life from a more positive perspective.

I end this on a postive note with a quote by Elizabeth Kenny says, "Some minds remain open long enough for the truth not only to enter but to pass on through by way of a ready exit without pausing anywhere along the route.

Best wishes and warm regards,

Hello Kris,

Harsh & TSK Raman have given you good inputs on how to handle the situation you are in.

Like Harsh mentioned: "You can see it as a problem and suffer or You can see it in a positive light and have some success from it".

Another angle to see the whole issue is this, given that you have a long future career in front of you.

You feel this as a 'problem' since your present focus is your 'seniors' giving your additional work.

Now suggest SHIFT YOUR FOCUS to the 'work' being given to you AND the opportunity to handle such tasks @ this stage of your career AND what would you be professionally, say 1-2 yrs, from now--notice the difference? Pl understand that not many people get such chances to handle the tasks of the level of Managers @ your level.

Once you shift your focus to the tasks, opportunities & the prospect of a well-rounded career, you begin to NOT TO BE BOTHERED by 'who' is giving you additional work that is bound to improve your skills or 'why' they are 'giving/passing/delegating' the additional work to you.

You can be sure of one thing: in the Long-term, you will be a definite gainer. While THEIR INTENT MAY BE to take advantage of you, they, IN FACT, are doing you a favor.

Coming to your problem of your works getting pending, like Harsh mentioned, you WILL have to find time to do it.

All the Best.

First you must make your mind that you have to learn more and better.Whatever they give you work ask question about their work How this will complete, why we are doing this. Second do your work simultaneously. spread all the papers on the table, when your senior nearer to you who gave you work then do their work as they go away start your work. Do mistake abruptly in their work. The mistake should be sily. This type of Attitude always find any where in service when you are junior.
