Dear All,
I'm working for as HR in a manufacturing firm - had certain queries about contractual staffing:
We have 15-20 workers working on company contract (not through contractor but directly with us). Currently we pay them fix wages (much above min wages) but they are not enrolled under epf scheme - is it compulsory to bring under EPF scheme exactly like we do for our onroll employees.
We intend to recruit a Security Officer on contract for a year - can it be done? will he come under EPF scheme?

Susan,
PF does not distinquish bet'n regular employees & non-regular employees. If the strength of employees 9incl. contract employees) is 20 or above, you should cover them under Provident Fund.

Dear Susan
Regardless of these contractual staff being on the payroll of the Co or are paid wages , as principal employer it attracts EPF and ESIS deduction and contribution ,there would be two EPF and ESIC sheets made one for regular employee contribution and the other for contractual employee contribution.
On part of Security officer front suggest you engage a track proven security Co for the same as is its yearly renewable contract
and these Co can also assist in assessing your security and vigilance requirements

Once the company is covered under PF / ESI scheme then any or every employee either directly / indirectly / through contractory employed are to be covered under the ESI , PF schemes
Company contract means deployed on one year contract employment or what. It is better to deploy contract workmen through contractor instead of having directly with you.
Identify a security agency and ask them to provide Security officer to you so that it will be a contractual employment. I suggest one Security Head should be on company rolls failing which the commitment levls / ownership will be less and your company has to face lot of issues.
