Ramya,
Have you checked this list with the list of holidays released by your state? If you find all the holidays you declared are there, then you can go ahead. Will you not be giving any optional holidays? Usually, we have two optional holidays to choose from a list that has to be declared along with the holiday list.

Praveen

Mr. Praveen,
Thank you for your response. I have checked the Maharashtra Holiday List, they have declared 18 days leaves. I think the Pvt company can declare 8 days as sufficient as per the Shops Act. The difference between the lists is Moharram, Mahashivratri, Ram Navami, Mahavir Jayanti, Good Friday, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti, Parsi New Year, Guru Nanak Jayanti. The above holidays are not given by me, as I think they are not required.
However, as I am new to Maharashtra, I have no idea which functions are very important. I also do not have any knowledge about the Shops Act of Maharashtra. Please guide me.

Dear Ramya,
Please check the previous years' calendar. Check with one or two key people if there were any employee grievances regarding the leave policy implemented last year. If there were any issues, make a decision about this year's leave policy accordingly.
Then release the updated calendar. Remember, the leave policy you establish for your organization should prioritize the needs of your internal employees since ultimately, it is for their benefit that all these efforts are made.
All the best,
Ram Ram

Thank you, Ram. There was no HR previously. I have checked with the Managing Director, and he has approved it. However, we would like to know about the other company declarations as well. There should not be much deviation either in dates or holidays.
Thanks,

Ramya,
Since you say there was no HR earlier, don't hesitate to check with a couple of employees. In case they suggest something which is value-adding, appreciate them and incorporate it. If they suggest something that you feel might be detrimental to the organization and its activities in some way, politely thank them for their inputs and tell them you will revert back to them.
Handle rejection carefully as the next time you approach them, you might not receive honest information.

Hi,
Yes, check with a few old employees (not everyone) and publish. There cannot be a 100% match of leave policy and days among all corporates. Therefore, publish the calendar and kick off the new year with a bang. There should be no issues as long as New Year and Ganesh Chaturthi are included in the leaves.
Cheers!

Dear Friends,
As per the Calcutta Shops and Establishments Act, there are 5 holidays that are compulsory:

2) 26th Jan - Republic Day
3) 1st May - Labour Day
4) 15th Aug - Independence Day
