Dear All,

I have completed my MBA in HRM from the MIT School of Business. Since I have graduated, I have been looking for a breakthrough job in any company but very confused at the outcomes of different job interviews (for Recruitment Executive, HR Trainee, etc.). Taking into account the current scenario, I have a few questions:

1) I am interested in the manufacturing sector, but which sector should I look for jobs in now?
2) Where else, other than personal contacts and job portals, can I find openings?
3) Are there any suggestions for me to do something HR-related worthwhile now?

Help--very anxious

Hi,

You can get jobs by networking as well as through job sites. It's better to start with a small manufacturing company where you can learn and gain an overall idea of HR. Then, you can choose any division of HR based on your preference. In HR, a generalist role is always in demand and I believe it will continue to be so.

Thank you, Rajeev and Chum.

The market is currently very low, so should I wait until I find the right opening as an HR Generalist or should I consider joining a consultancy as a recruitment executive (which I am able to secure easily)? Do you have any other suggestions? Is there anything I can do to supplement my HR degree while I am at home?

Hi Preeti,

Your condition is the same as mine - I'm also sitting at home. My exams have been over since July. Yes, Preeti, your idea is right. If you get any chance to join any consultancy, you should not waste time. Work here for the time being until you get a good break. It's better than sitting idle because it's a recession period. I have also decided to do as I suggested you.

A thousand-mile journey must begin with a single step. Start with a recruiter firm, then build upon skillsets such as competence mapping, compensation designing, social compliance, etc., and look for a suitable opening later. Alternatively, pick a few short-term courses in the above and join a good setup from day one.

Hi Preeti & others friends,

Nothing to worry about, join a consultancy, you will get good exposure. Don't stop trying for a corporate role. In my case, I started as a recruiter, simultaneously I was trying for a corporate role. Now, I am an Assistant Manager - HR in a leading truck manufacturing firm. I was there in consultancy for nearly about 1.5 years. So, get into consultancy and feel HR. Come on people, pull up your socks, join the race. For more queries, post to me. Keep rocking.

Hi Preeti,

After going through all your reviews, I have an offer for you. I am a team leader in an IT company. My name is ESSA. At some point, even I was stuck when making a firm decision, but this company literally helped me out. Now I am very happy in this position. Nowadays, companies are looking for people who have good hands-on experience with new products or are experienced candidates. As you do not have experience, you may be lacking somewhere, and I would suggest you take various courses.

We offer online training and classroom training in various fields like SAP HR, SAP PM, or SAP MM. PM stands for project management, and MM stands for material management. These skills are useful in all industries, companies, and small-scale units. Additionally, we provide placements in every country now. There are new courses like Project Management Professionals, Business Analyst, or SAP Business One, which are in high demand.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

C u later.
Goodbye.
