Actually, I am working as a Senior HR Executive in an MNC and also pursuing an MBA (HR) through distance learning. Concurrently, I am thinking of taking up the Company Secretarial course from ICSI. Therefore, I just wanted to know if pursuing CS alongside my MBA (HR) would help in enhancing my career prospects in HR in the near future.

I am eager to pursue CS as my ultimate goal is to become a Chief Operating Officer or HR Director of a company. I recently came across an advertisement for the position of an HR Director in a newspaper where having a CS degree was mentioned as an added advantage. So, what do you think? Should I enroll in this course or not?

Additionally, please provide insights on the future prospects of CS and MBA in the upcoming years.

Dear Anu,

MBA & CS is a good combination, but by the end of the day, it all depends on how you apply your skills to work and produce outputs. Proper organization of skills and using them at the right time is more important.

Hello everyone! :)

Even after so many views, nobody tried to answer my query briefly. But I do have one more query on the same subject. I am planning to do one more course alongside my MBA-HR, which could help me in building my career in HR. So, I just want to ask if CS or LLB would be beneficial. Therefore, you all are requested to clear my doubts on this topic at the earliest.

I would really appreciate if anyone could tell me about the LLB program descriptively, like eligibility to get enrolled for it (I am a science graduate, so am I eligible for LLB?), universities offering LLB programs through distance mode, duration of the course, fee structure, etc.

Hi Anu,

Let me first suggest the following:

1) If you want to do CS along with MBA (HR), that is a very nice option.
2) If you want to pursue LLB, there are numerous universities offering LLB courses through distance mode.
3) Regardless of being a science graduate, many universities offer LLB courses through distance mode.
4) However, consider the mix of CS/LLB/MBA(HR) once again.

Hi Balaji,

I really appreciate your prompt reply. Could you please tell me about the Indian universities that offer correspondence courses in LLB? I have conducted an extensive search but could not find relevant information. I am in a confused state because I have sought guidance from some of my seniors; a few of them are suggesting that CS is good, while others are recommending LLB as a great option. I am unable to decide, hence I am posting here to gather more suggestions on the same topic.

Kindly assist me in deciding which option is better: CS+MBA or LLB+MBA.

There are universities such as the University of Madras and Annamalai University (in Chennai, Tamil Nadu) that offer LLB courses through distance learning. If you wish to pursue CS, the distance learning option would also be suitable, as many institutes offer CS courses. The Institute of CS of India has regional offices in major cities where you can seek more information.

I believe I have provided some guidance and suggestions. Proceed after carefully considering the opinions of seniors.

It would be better if you pursue an MBA + LLB. Becoming an HR Director should make you proud, given your wealth of HR Management concepts, all of which are strongly connected to Indian labor laws.

Move forward with a thorough study of LLB + MBA. Good luck!

As you have asked, I would like to say that I have approximately 3 years of experience in the entire gamut of HR functions. I believe that I do have a sound knowledge of Statutory concepts, Payroll management, Compensation & benefits, Recruitment & selection, Training & Development, Exit procedures, PMS, Salary fixation, HRIS, etc. I recently joined a telecom company and now I am keen to become an HR Director/COO of the company. Therefore, I am unable to decide which one would be better, as some are suggesting to go for CS while others recommend LLB along with an MBA (currently pursuing MBA from IGNOU, Delhi). So kindly suggest to me which one would be much better for career prospects and, of course, in salary packages.

Hi Anu,

First, you should have patience after posting your question/query. You can request opinions and views but can't insist. One may be prompted to answer queries specific to legal aspects, HR systems, etc., but advising or opining on someone's career aspirations is a little difficult.

Secondly, I hope you have considered the fact that 'becoming Director HR' means fulfilling the requirements and discharging the responsibilities of a Director of HR. Becoming a Director of HR will not be a destination; it will be a journey. I hope you have considered aspects of your career aspirations:

- What it requires (you may have figured out - MBA, CS/LLB)
- How to reach there (mere qualifications will not take you there. The 'how' part needs to be thought out in advance. Proactiveness is required in terms of understanding the role of a Director of HR, the competencies required to be a successful Director (other than qualifications). You have to have a strong will so that societal requirements do not hinder your ambition/aspirations.

Thirdly, MBA + CS is a better option than MBA + LLB - my personal opinion based on the fact that CS will be a better course to do through correspondence compared to LLB. ISCS holds contact classes and discussions as well.

Here, I must appreciate your ambition and wish you good luck. The enthusiasm with which you have started this post may continue.
