Roulette,
I find the Kelly Report (Salary Handbook) a little doubtful in view of the absence of references and list of companies where those figures were taken. JE Consultants like me will find the data difficult to use because it will be difficult to explain if such figures were credible. Indeed, in the absence of organizational references (participating companies) per industry, anyone can say that the figures were just randomly taken out of the blue.
Besides, when we do benchmarking, we usually use the market median rates (50th percentile) and NOT the minimum or maximum rates. The Survey Report by Gallup is more acceptable and within the universal standard format. They use the same format as The HayGroup, W. Mercer, and Watson Wyatt Total Remuneration Survey reports.
Best wishes.

Hello Ed,
I totally endorse and appreciate your views. I do agree that Gallup, Mercer, and Watson conduct a more comprehensive and detailed survey compared to Kelly's. If you have access to any such reports, please do post them.

Sushant,
I have sent the report to your email address. Please confirm the receipt.
Rama,
I think we are associated with the number 1 "HR Forum" on the net. I am very sure that an intelligent person like you is well aware of the meaning of the word "Forum". I strongly believe that learning is an ongoing process and there is always something new to learn in every aspect of life. This is the main reason I ask for comments and suggestions from HR Leaders and the Fraternity in each of my posts.
I hope I have addressed your doubt. Should you still have any queries or concerns, feel free to get back to me anytime :)

I also agree with Ed Llarena. If this data has been compiled based on a survey report, the details of those companies that participated and the locations where the survey was conducted should also be mentioned to keep it accurate. Of course, the compensation benchmarking should be based on percentiles of the market rates, not on the minimum and maximum values.
Thank you very much, Mr. Ed Llarena, Jr.

Thanks for the valuable information. How about the top payers in IT like Google, Yahoo, Cadence, Honeywell...? Ultimately, these companies will establish the baseline for compensation. Please share your thoughts. Who is the top payer in IT in Bangalore?

Dear Roulette,
Thank you very much for this posting the salary survey.
I am working with telecom Infrastructure Company, based at Hyderabad. Basically as per my company requirement, we recruit B.E./Diploma Civil & Mechanical candidates. We are offering Salary package is Rs.5500/-+Rs.2400/-(DA) +Rs.500/- (TRAVELLING EXPENSES WILL PROVIDED BY THE COMPANY) Mobile Allowance. We are doing recruitment continuously. The attrition rate is very high particularly in 0 -1 year of experience employees.
Most of the employees are leaving for the reason of Salary. I explained to the management reasons for leaving. They asked me, collect the salary structures of competitor companies how they are offering, particularly 0 -1 years.
Where do, I get the data…… Please help me

Hi,
I do agree that without obtaining the sample population of the survey, it is not advisable to rely on the data provided by Kelly's. If you go through the same, you will see that the range is too wide to manage, negotiate, etc.

Dear seniors,
I have been working since 2001. I joined as a programmer in a typesetting industry. I worked for one and a half years and then transferred to a different department where my role was to coordinate with all the production teams in India and project managers in the UK & US. My responsibilities included maintaining the client site for all uploads and downloads, keeping records, and performing final checks on products before uploading to the client site. Overall, I acted as a bridge between the production team and project managers in the UK & US for 2 years and 4 months.
In 2005, I was promoted to Team Leader, where I was responsible for production, quality, and scheduling of products, leading a team of 30 people. In May 2006, I was assigned the role of Assistant Project Manager for three international clients. Everything was going well until May 2007 when there was an "Internal job posting" from HR. I applied and was selected to join HR as a Senior Executive. I started learning and working with the talent management team, and I found it to be a great learning experience. I developed a passion for HR and wanted to pursue a career in this field. However, in April 2008, I received a tempting offer from a different company and joined as a Project Manager.
Now, after 4 months in this new role, I find myself in a dilemma. I am struggling to let go of my interest in HR, and it feels nearly impossible to ignore.
Starting from August, I am planning to enroll in an MBA program (distance learning). I seek your guidance on choosing a specialization: HR or Operations? I am also uncertain about the expected salary in HR after completing an MBA with 1 year of experience in talent management.
I have a notion that pursuing an MBA in Operations might put me in a better position, considering my 6 years of experience in operations.
Your prompt assistance would be highly appreciated.
Sincerely,
A new member of this site.

Hi there,
I just noticed your posting on the India Salary Handbook 2008/09. Now that it's recession time, do you have the new salary handbook released? I also notice it's up to only 10 years of experience; how about Director level? Let me know if you have the latest update on the India Salary Handbook.
Thanks,
Taj
