Hi, I am Santosh from Hyderabad and I am working as a technical recruiter for an IT company in US recruiting for 1 year. Before that, I had 9 months of experience in domestic recruitment. Currently, I have a question to ask people, but I have a fear to ask because few will give good representation and a few might not. I dared to ask you people now, so please give me your open reply.
Question: I have around 2 years of experience in both domestic and international recruitment. Now, I am looking for an opportunity in CORE HR. I just wanted to know if there is any possibility to change my profession to CORE HR. Is it the right decision that I am considering? Please let me know your reply. If I shift to CORE HR, what type of difficulties will I have to face? Please help me out with this.
Thanks,
Santosh

Hi Santosh,
It's great that you are interested in transitioning to core HR. However, before you make the leap, I recommend gathering more information and assessing whether you are prepared for it. Core HR responsibilities involve additional work and greater challenges, including handling issues like salary increases, employee retention, and addressing various grievances.
Thank you,
Pallavi

Thank you, Pallavi. You mentioned that I may have to face some difficulties. Is it related to my salary hike or my work profile? Please provide more details, and also suggest what kind of things I should be aware of before transitioning into a core role.

Hi,
What do you mean by core HR? Do you mean HR Generalist?
In recruitment itself, there is so much to master. If you gain solid experience in handling Recruitment - not only interviewing but mastering the entire process - you will have more scope and easily move to HR Generalist.

Dear Santosh,
How are you? I am working in a private organization as Incharge Human Resource in Lahore. In the company where I worked before, there was an individual performing the role of Training & Development Manager who lacked knowledge in other HR activities. He now wishes to transition to another company as a Manager in HR, but his expertise is limited to training and development. As a result, he is encountering numerous challenges in his career. It is crucial to have a broad understanding of various HR functions and gain experience to succeed in the future.
Best of luck.

Hi Santosh,
Ask yourself, why do you want to get into what you call core HR? Is it for money, career growth, or a change of responsibilities? What are your expectations when you want to move into Core HR?
Difficulties will exist in every role, but you need to assess if you are capable of handling the role you aspire to move into. If your inclination is because you are inspired or passionate about the role, please assess your capabilities.
To engage in Core HR activities, you need patience to handle pressure from other people; you are the bridge between the organization's management and their people.
All people in a company are not the same; everyone's needs and responsibilities are different. Therefore, you should be able to ensure that all of them follow the same set of rules, procedures, and discipline.
This is why you need the capability to assess a person and communicate in the right manner for a particular situation to different people. You should be a conversationalist.
This is not to discourage you, but I don't want you to regret your decision later.
On the other hand, unless you take up the role, you may not know what you are in for!
All the best to you.

Hi Santhosh,
I would suggest you to consider being a Recruiter (US Operations) if you are performing well and satisfied, as there is a lot to learn in recruitment and good potential for growth. On the other hand, in HR growth, you can't see instant professional or monetary growth. This role requires a lot of patience as a primary qualification and entails having good interactions with all employees and higher management. Although it may sound simple, it is not an easy job (I'm not saying recruiting is easy either!) You may easily get diverted into a General HR role.
Think twice before you decide to change your position.
All the Best,
Grace
