Hi, I am working with a leading telecom ISP company as a commercial lead for the last 9.7 years. From Jul '21, there have been certain issues from our end customer (RJIO) which resulted in holding payments from our invoices. Due to this, our Business Head started blaming me and forcing me to resign. I strongly responded to the Business Head that the payments being held require HR and project team intervention to release them. My question is whether material reconciliation and IR compliance fall under the KRA of commercial!

It is crucial to understand the scope of responsibilities within the commercial role to determine whether material reconciliation and IR compliance are part of your Key Result Areas (KRA). Here are some key points to consider in this situation:

1. Material Reconciliation:
- Material reconciliation typically involves ensuring that the physical inventory matches the financial records. It is a critical aspect of financial management and control within a commercial function.
- While material reconciliation may not always be explicitly listed in the KRA of a commercial lead, it is often indirectly related to financial oversight and control, which are core components of commercial responsibilities.
- If your role involves overseeing financial transactions, managing vendor relationships, or ensuring accuracy in billing processes, material reconciliation could reasonably be considered within the purview of your responsibilities.

2. IR Compliance:
- Industrial Relations (IR) compliance pertains to adherence to labor laws, regulations, and agreements within the workplace. It involves maintaining a harmonious relationship between management and employees.
- While IR compliance is typically associated with HR functions, commercial leads may also play a role in ensuring compliance within their operational areas.
- Understanding basic labor laws and regulations, especially those relevant to your industry and region, is essential for all managers, including commercial leads, to avoid legal issues and maintain a productive work environment.

Considering the context of your situation, where payment issues have arisen and your Business Head is pressuring you to resign, it is important to clarify the specific expectations and responsibilities outlined in your job description and KRA. If material reconciliation and IR compliance are integral to your role, you can use this information to support your position and seek appropriate intervention from HR or higher management.

In cases of workplace disputes or harassment, it is advisable to seek guidance from legal experts or relevant labor laws to understand your rights and options. Documenting all communication and incidents can also strengthen your case if further action is needed to address the situation effectively.
